Local Rn information

What is a local RN?

Local RNs, or local registered nurses, are licensed nurses who work within a specific geographic area, typically near their home, rather than traveling to different regions or states for assignments. They provide patient care in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, or other healthcare facilities based on the needs of their local community. Unlike travel nurses, local RNs usually have more stable schedules and do not require temporary housing or long commutes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a local RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Local RN, you need a solid grounding in nursing practice, patient care, and medical procedures, supported by an accredited nursing degree and current RN licensure in your state. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), IV pumps, and medication administration systems is commonly required. Excellent communication, empathy, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing situations are crucial soft skills. These skills ensure safe, effective care for patients and foster strong teamwork in local healthcare environments.

What are some common challenges faced by local RNs when transitioning between different healthcare settings within the community?

Local RNs often work in a variety of healthcare environments, such as clinics, home care, and community health centers. Transitioning between these settings can present challenges like adapting to different patient populations, learning new documentation systems, and collaborating with diverse interdisciplinary teams. Flexibility and strong communication skills are essential, as each environment may have unique protocols and expectations. Building rapport with new colleagues and quickly understanding local community needs can help Local RNs succeed in these transitions.

What is the difference between Local Rn vs Travel Rn?

Work EnvironmentHospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities in a specific areaVarious locations, often short-term assignments across different regions
Employer & Industry UsageLocal healthcare facilities, community clinicsTravel staffing agencies, healthcare systems
Search & Comparison IntentJobs near home, stable scheduleShort-term assignments, travel opportunities

Both Local Rn and Travel Rn require similar credentials and certifications. Local Rns work primarily within their community or region, providing consistent care at local facilities. Travel Rns, on the other hand, take short-term assignments across different locations, offering flexibility and travel experiences. Your choice depends on your preference for stability versus adventure and travel.

Where do registered nurses get paid the most?

Registered nurses tend to earn the highest salaries in states with a high cost of living and strong healthcare industries, such as California, Massachusetts, and Alaska. Salaries can also vary based on experience, specialization, and work setting, with roles in hospitals and specialized clinics often offering higher pay. Geographic location significantly influences RN compensation levels across the country.

The Role
We're looking for a Part Time Infusion Nurse who is passionate about raising the bar in infusion therapy care.
The Infusion Nurse will contribute to the company's growth by providing direct patient care at our infusion center in Colonie, NY. The Infusion Nurse will make sure our patients receive the highest level of care possible in infusion therapy.
The ideal candidate has experience working autonomously, and experience starting IVs and working with biologic drugs. The Infusion Nurse role is perfect for those wishing to remain at the forefront of healthcare innovation, while having predictable hours, autonomy, and a manageable workload (always a 3:1 patient to clinician ratio).
Schedule: Flexible schedule, 8-hour shifts; seeking a part-time RN for 3-days/week. Potential to move to full-time as center volume increases (2-3 months after start date).
In this role, you will:
  • Assess and document the health status of the patient
  • Deliver infusions or injections in accordance with prescribed protocols and organization guidelines
  • Assist in maintaining medical inventory and supplies
  • Openly communicate with referring/prescribing providers, such as order clarification, patient status, and plan of care
  • Provide onsite supervision for all patients

Here's what we're looking for:
  • Current RN licensure in New York
  • ACLS & PALS Certification (preferred)
  • Current BLS CPR certification
  • Excellent IV skills (infusion therapy experience a plus)
  • Experience and strong familiarity utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
  • Part-time with the potential to move to full-time

The Local Infusion Way
Local Infusion is a respectful, upbeat, and remote-first team united by our mission of shaping the way specialty infusion care is delivered. We are highly ambitious, but understand that in order to do a great job, we have to take care of ourselves; we expect that you will have time and energy devoted to your families, friends and hobbies.
As part of our team, part time employees get:
  • First priority, if desired, to move to open full-time positions

We don't discriminate-Local Infusion is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Employer. We fundamentally believe that a more diverse and inclusive team leads to a stronger company more able to achieve our vision.
