General Summary

The Field Service Technician is a mechanic responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing fleet vehicles and heavy construction equipment (to include dozers, scrapers, track-hoes, loaders, compactors, etc.). Experience in diesel mechanics, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems is preferred. Local field travel to jobsites is required.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Service company trucks and heavy earthmoving equipment to meet field requirements.
  • Operate equipment and tools involved in shop and field repairs.
  • Work in a team environment to maintain a coordinated effort aligned with the business needs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair various electrical assemblies and pneumatic systems.
  • Rebuild, replace, or repair heavy equipment components, differentials, motors, transmissions, and drives.
  • Assign priority and process repair work orders to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Evaluate and recommend all repairs with cost estimates.
  • Communicate and document findings and recommendations clearly in English.
  • Assist in shop fabrication, welding, and assembly operations.
  • Locate and requisition parts for fleet repairs.
  • Understand and implement laws and regulations on transportation, fleet maintenance, and safety.
  • Keep the field service truck, shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.

Education

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent years of experience.

Certification

  • Must have a valid driver's license, Class B CDL (Class A endorsement a plus).
  • Welding, hoisting devices, crane, and forklift certifications a plus.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of mechanical knowledge or heavy equipment repair experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulic systems, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and respond to field maintenance needs independently or in team settings.
  • Previous heavy earthwork or general engineering construction equipment maintenance experience a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to use various hand and power tools safely.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to operate hand/power tools and heavy specialty equipment. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
