Job description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a NNN Finance Credit Analyst to join our team! Successful NNN Finance Credit Analysts are quantitative thinkers with a demonstrated ability to work with a large number of variables, craft well organized and concise credit memorandums, and are comfortable making complex and financially sound decisions or recommendations across a diverse spectrum of commercial real estate lending.

As part of this role you will:

  • Acquire working knowledge of applicable bank credit policies and regulatory lending laws.
  • Assist with the timely collection of customer financial information as needed.
  • Spread and analyze personal and business financial statements, tax returns, management prepared financials and CPA prepared compilations, reviews and audited statements.
  • Analyze loan data on new, renewal and existing loans; including data provided by credit bureaus, other financial institutions and financial institution credit/collateral files.
  • Make recommendations for proper loan structuring including term, amortization, loan conditions and covenants.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, credit memorandums, reports, summaries and opinions.
  • Determine the proper risk rating for credits at time of loan origination and on relationships assigned for annual reviews.
  • Actively participate in loan committee offering their opinion of the credit and/or responding to questions as the financial analyst for the credit requested.
  • Work with participating banks to ensure proper reporting and updating of credit information.
  • Perform UCC, credit bureau, D&B, loss avoidance, and other credit/industry and collateral specific investigations.
  • Keep informed about current national and local economic and industry events, new accounting and finance rules and other events, which may affect the quality of the bank’s loan portfolio.
  • Perform other Credit and Credit Administration functions as required.
  • Adhere to Confidentiality Policy, Code of Ethics Policy, all applicable Bank policies and procedures as well as all applicable regulatory and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned or requested.

To be successful in this position, we require the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting.
  • A minimum of one (1) years of related analytical experience.

The following would be a plus:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with primary emphasis in Word and Excel.
  • Exceptional financial analytical, business mathematical, organizational, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, initiative and tact in dealing with brokers, applicants, borrowers, borrower counsel, lending officers, staff, supervisors and management.
  • Experience working with commercial loans and/or spreading financial statements.
