Senior Developer & Test Engineer / Task Lead
Location: Remote
Clearance Requirement: Must have an IRS High-Risk Background Investigation, IRS access processing, and required drug screening before CI network access.
Position Overview
Nationwide IT Services (NIS) is seeking a Senior Developer & Test Engineer / Task Lead to lead software development, testing, release management, and operational support activities for a federal application environment. This role serves as the technical lead for application releases, maintenance, stakeholder coordination, and production support while acting as a liaison to Government Program Managers.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on senior developer who has successfully led application releases, testing efforts, requirements management, and cross-functional teams in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
  • Lead application releases from planning through deployment.
  • Oversee Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities and production support.
  • Coordinate technical teams, stakeholders, and release schedules.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with Government Program Managers and business stakeholders.
Software Development
  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain applications using Microsoft technologies.
  • Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues and application defects.
Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Lead release testing and validation activities.
  • Manage defect tracking, resolution, and reporting.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), system testing, performance testing, and accessibility testing.
Requirements & Release Management
  • Manage requirements throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Maintain Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTM/RTVM).
  • Coordinate Change Control Board (CCB) and Change Review Board (CRB) activities.
  • Ensure successful deployment of controlled releases into production environments.

Required Qualifications
Experience
  • 7+ years of experience as a Software Developer, Technical Lead, or equivalent role.
  • Demonstrated leadership of software releases, testing efforts, and production support activities.
  • Experience managing requirements and traceability using RTM, RTVM, or similar methodologies.
  • Experience working with Government Program Managers, business owners, and technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to balance hands-on development with testing and release leadership responsibilities.
