Living rent free in exchange for work means that a person is provided with free accommodation in return for performing certain tasks or services for the property owner or landlord. This arrangement can include duties such as property maintenance, cleaning, childcare, pet sitting, or assisting with household chores. Generally, affordable housing options for around $500 a month are more common in rural areas or smaller towns, where the cost of living is lower, but such arrangements are typically separate from employment offers.
