Job description

The Norfolk Admirals Professional Hockey team is seeking a motivated and creative individual to join our Entertainment and Production team as an intern for the 2026-2027 hockey season. This internship provides hands-on experience in live event production, sports entertainment, and fan engagement. The selected candidate will work directly with the Senior Director of Entertainment and Fan Experience, playing a key role in the planning and execution of in-game entertainment and promotional activities. This role is ideal for individuals pursuing careers in live entertainment, event production, or the sports industry. Our goal is to create an unforgettable fan experience by producing engaging and dynamic in-game entertainment. Our approach to entertainment is centered around putting fun and fans first, embracing creativity, taking risks, and continuously innovating, experimenting, and trying new things. We aim to create unforgettable moments and memories for our fans that create an emotional bond to the team.
Duration: This internship will last for the duration of the 2026-27 Hockey Season. From August to mid-April. 36 home games at Norfolk Scope Arena and some off-site events
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the setup, operation, and breakdown of all in-game and event entertainment elements, including lighting, audio, special effects, props, and promotional items.
  • Coordinate and manage pre-game, in-game, and post-game promotional activities including live entertainment acts and skits
  • Monitor in-game presentation elements to provide quality assurance (Including music levels, public engagement areas, and overall fan experience)
  • Support mascot operations, including coordinating appearances, managing schedules, and assisting the performer when necessary
  • Operate or assist with game production equipment, including cameras, music laptops, soundboards, video boards, DMX controllers, PAR lighting, and fog machines
  • Schedule and manage Ice Crew personnel for each game
  • Assist in writing and producing skits, scripts, and in-game entertainment content
  • Manage and maintain production equipment and storage for equipment
  • Research, book, schedule, and manage communications for local talent, performers, and entertainment acts for game nights and special events
  • Contribute creative ideas and concepts to help develop engaging in-game entertainment, fan interactions, on-ice contests, theme nights, characters, skits, and other promotional activities.
  • Work closely with the game presentation team consisting of the Director of Entertainment, Arena Production Staff, Video Board Operators, Audio Operator, and PA Announcer, to coordinate timing and execution of in-game elements
  • Troubleshoot issues as they arise on game days to ensure a seamless show

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Must be a current college student receiving academic credit for the internship
  • Passion for sports entertainment, live event production, and fan experience
  • Must be available to work all home games which include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Participation in community and off site events is preferred but not required
  • Ability to work under pressure, take initiative, adapt to adversity and work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
  • Strong creativity, time management, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to think on your feet
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with fans, staff, and sponsors
  • Comfortable being on-camera when needed
  • Capable of handling physical activity, including standing for long periods, walking up and down stairs, and lifting up to 45 pounds
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from Scope Arena

Preferred Experience (Not Required)
  • Live event production, event coordination, or A/V technology (soundboards, DMX lighting, video boards, etc.)
  • Scriptwriting or content creation for live events
