ECLARO’s client is a leading technology solutions provider, collaborating with customers to manage their needs and achieve success in their business goals.

Position Overview: Seeking a Senior Storage & Data Protection Engineer supporting a secure research and regulated environment. This role will serve as the technical owner of enterprise NetApp storage infrastructure, leading modernization efforts, executing complex data migrations, implementing disaster recovery replication strategies, and optimizing backup and virtualization ecosystems.

The ideal consultant brings deep expertise across NetApp ONTAP, SnapMirror replication, Veeam data protection, and VMware vSphere, along with prior experience operating in CMMC-aligned or regulated research environments. This is a hands-on senior engineering role requiring both execution excellence and documentation rigor. Responsibilities: Serve as technical lead and subject matter expert for NetApp ONTAP enterprise storage platforms (SVMs, LUNs, aggregates, volumes, snapshots, performance tuning).

Architect and execute complex data migrations from legacy storage arrays to modern NetApp environments with minimal operational disruption. Design, implement, and optimize SnapMirror site-to-site replication strategies supporting disaster recovery and research data resiliency. Engineer and manage Veeam backup and recovery solutions, including job configuration, retention policies, restore validation, monitoring, and executive-level reporting.

Perform advanced VMware vSphere administration, including VM lifecycle management, storage vMotion, cluster coordination, and host maintenance alignment with storage initiatives. Partner with security and compliance teams to support CMMC-aligned controls, documentation, audit evidence collection, and secure configuration standards. Develop detailed migration plans, architecture documentation, and operational runbooks to ensure long-term sustainability.

Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to campus operations and infrastructure teams. Required Qualifications: 7 years of hands-on enterprise storage engineering experience. Advanced administration of NetApp ONTAP in production environments.

Proven experience leading and executing large-scale storage migrations. Demonstrated expertise configuring and troubleshooting SnapMirror replication. Strong experience deploying and managing Veeam backup infrastructure, including restores and reporting.

Hands-on VMware vSphere experience, including storage vMotion and cluster operations. Experience operating in secure, regulated, or research-driven environments (CMMC, DoD, HIPAA, NIST frameworks). Strong documentation skills with the ability to produce technical design artifacts and migration plans.

US Citizen (required for CMMC / research compliance). Preferred Skills: NetApp certifications (NCDA, NCIE) or 3 years equivalent NetApp enterprise experience. Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE).

VMware VCP certification. Experience in higher education or research institutions.
