What you'll bring:

As a Senior Technical Consulting Engineer, you will lead advisory services to the sales force, customers, and potential clients, resolving complex technical, scientific, or engineering issues to drive the successful sales, installation, and utilization of organizational products and services.

An experienced professional with advanced, interdisciplinary knowledge, resolving difficult and complex issues using broad professional concepts. Guides others, applying advanced principles and company practices. Leads moderate sized projects (or parts of larger projects) with strategic value. Operates autonomously with frequent senior leadership interaction. Utilize subject matter expertise in specific disciplines and AT&T Network Technologies.

What you'll do:

  • Network Monitoring & Incident Management

    • Track, analyze, and report undersea cable faults and outages, including traffic impacts and restoration status

    • Collaborate with NOCs and providers to diagnose issues (e.g., trunk failures, segment faults, routing changes)

    • Interpret technical data from optical, Layer 2/3, and transport networks

    • Support troubleshooting of real-time incidents impacting global connectivity

  • Reporting & Operational Visibility

    • Produce and distribute daily and weekly submarine cable status reports

    • Document outages include:

      • Root cause

      • Impact (traffic, customers)

      • Duration and restoration actions

      • Track performance metrics such as outage duration, repair timelines, and service impacts

  • Cable Operations & Lifecycle Management

    • Support cable system maintenance, repairs, and upgrades (wet plant and station)

    • Participate in planning and execution of:

    • Cable retirement projects

    • Equipment removals and replacements

    • Station upgrades and reconfigurations

    • Coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders on repair strategies and field work

  • Project & Meeting Participation

    • Attend and participate in operational and planning meetings such as:

    • Track action items and update project documentation

    • Provide technical input on infrastructure and risk decisions

  • Industry & Regulatory Engagement

    • Participate in industry groups (e.g., NASCA/ICPC discussions and inputs) related to submarine cable policy and resilience

    • Review and contribute to regulatory topics such as:

    • FCC rulemaking

    • Cable system fees and compliance requirements

    • Support organizational responses and data submissions

  • Cross-Team Coordination

    • Work closely with:

    • Network Operations Centers (NOCs)

    • Engineering teams

    • External vendors and cable consortia

    • Coordinate communication during outages and restoration efforts

    • Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to peers

What you'll need:

  • Required Experience:

    • 3+ years of related experience in area of professional responsibility

    • Certification is required in some areas.

  • Desired Experience:

    • Tier 1, 2 and 3 Networking experience

    • Subsea cable routing and mapping

    • Fault analysis (tracking, reporting of traffic impacts and restoration)

  • Desired Qualification:

    • Top Secret or Secret security clearance may be required

    • 10% travel may be required

  • Desired Education:

    • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Marine or Cabling Engineering preferred.

Environmental Requirements: This position may be responsible for contributing to AT&T compliance with environmental laws and regulations as applicable to its job function. This may include, but is not limited to, work related to fuel tanks, emergency and stand-by generators, boilers, hazardous waste, hazardous materials, batteries, manholes and vaults, water wells, linear and other construction projects, water discharge, or air emissions.
