RN Short Stay Unit (SSU)

RN Registered Nurse

Critical Access 25 bed facility. Strong leadership team that is tight knit and works closely with the team. It is a unique place a hospital and clinic all in one.

A Short Stay Unit (SSU) is a hospital unit designed to provide brief, targeted care for patients who require short-term interventions or observation, typically with expected lengths of stay of 24-72 hours. It aims to reduce hospital stays and streamline care for specific conditions, often for patients who are ready to be discharged once their condition stabilizes.

Job description:

A short stay unit (SSU) nurse job description typically involves providing specialized care for patients who require brief hospitalization, typically less than 5 days. The nurse's responsibilities include assessing, planning, and implementing care plans, administering medications and treatments, and ensuring patients are discharged promptly when clinically ready.

  • Purpose:

SSUs are intended for patients who need a brief period of observation, treatment, or diagnosis, but don't require the full resources of a traditional inpatient stay.

  • Patient Population:

They serve patients with conditions like minor illnesses, those recovering from surgery, or individuals needing observation following an emergency department visit.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal patient/resident care environment in critical access hospital and emergency department

Utilization of personal computers and information systems

  • This job requires use of respiratory protection which will require respirator fit testing and medical clearance to wear a respirator.
  • Participates in on-call rotations for night, weekend and/or holiday support.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelors degree in nursing preferred but not required will accept ADN
  • One (1) year of nursing experience in medical/surgical or in specialty clinical area preferred.
  • Current Montana state license as a registered nurse required
  • Healthcare Provider CPR Certification required
