What is a live in residential?

Live-in residential jobs are positions where employees live on-site at their place of work, typically providing support, care, or supervision in residential settings such as group homes, care facilities, or private households. These roles often involve assisting residents with daily activities, ensuring their safety, and sometimes performing household duties. Living on-site allows for immediate response to residents' needs and fosters a supportive, stable environment. Compensation may include salary, room, and board. These jobs are common in caregiving, social services, and some educational settings.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a live in residential support worker?

To thrive as a Live-In Residential Support Worker, you need a background in care or social work, basic first aid knowledge, and often a relevant certification such as a Care Certificate. Familiarity with care management software, medication administration systems, and safeguarding protocols is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to handle challenging behaviors are essential soft skills in this role. These skills ensure that residents receive high-quality care and support in a safe, nurturing environment.

What are some unique challenges faced by live in residential staff, and how can they be managed effectively?

Live-In Residential staff often face the challenge of balancing professional responsibilities with personal boundaries, as their workplace is also their home. This can make it harder to 'switch off' after hours and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Additionally, responding to emergencies or supporting residents during off-hours can be demanding. Effective time management, clear communication with the team, and setting boundaries with residents are essential strategies for managing these challenges and sustaining well-being in the role.

Position Overview

Do you live in Georgia and are interested in pursuing a career in Sales with a reputable company? Are you energized by building relationships, solving problems, and helping people create beautiful spaces? We are hiring now for our March 2026 Residential Sales Trainee Cohort!

Shaw Industries is looking for ambitious, people-centered talent to join our Residential Sales Trainee Program: a dynamic career-launching experience designed to develop the next generation of high-performing sales professionals.

As a Residential Sales Trainee, you'll receive hands-on training, real-world experience, and personalized coaching while learning the ins and outs of Shaw's products, customers, and market strategy. By the end of the program, you'll be ready to step into a professional selling role with confidence, product expertise, and a strong network behind you.

Associates participate in everything from team building activities, plant tours, product knowledge assessments, corporate networking, professional presentations and much more.

  • Following training, associates transition into a field apprenticeship where they enter into a geographic market within the US (this being Georgia) and apply what they learned with the support of other successful sales leaders. Here, they get to learn best practices while gaining hands-on, on-the-job training.

  • At the end of their apprenticeship, they are placed into one of our sales locations throughout the US as a territory manager.
