Job description
The Residential Community Director (RCD) role is a full-time, live-in position that manages the day-to-day community development initiatives and services to create supportive and welcoming residential communities. This is a 3-year time-limited role. The start date is negotiable, with the end of the first year being on June 30th of that academic year. All subsequent years run July 1st to June 30th.
This position supervises Resident Assistants (RAs), or Assistant Residential Community Director (ARCD) if applicable, and will advise a residential programming board. Develops and implements residential learning programs and initiatives; assists with enhancing student development. Advises students and collaborates with staff and faculty to create living/learning communities that enrich the students' University experience. Provides crisis intervention to residents; assesses nature of concerns and resolves or refers for resolution. Educates and informs residents of Residential Life policies and community standards; holds residents accountable and restores community impact from policy violations, issues educational and restorative obligations. This position is responsible for assigned after-hours/weekend/holiday on-call duties on a rotational basis to address any residential based emergencies. Oversees the residential community budget, collaborates with facilities and housekeeping, and participates in assigned departmental committees.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Supervision
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate 6-16 undergraduate Resident Advisors.
- Develop, implement and facilitate on-going in-service training for hall staff with particular attention to community development, programming, and human relations issues.
- Organize and facilitate weekly RA staff meetings.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate an Assistant Residential Community Director (ARCD) (if applicable).
- Support additional residential student staff and programming (i.e., student tutors, technology liaisons, etc.) (if applicable).
Residential Education Programming & Community Development
- Create, implement, and evaluate the Community Engagement Model, to ensure dynamic and educational programming in the community.
- Cultivate a residential environment grounded in social justice values and aligned with the Department's Diversity Statement.
- Utilize restorative justice philosophy and practices as a learning tool for students in the conduct process.
- Work with live-in and/or assigned faculty to enhance student and faculty interaction in residential areas (if applicable).
- Advise residential programming board with a specific emphasis on community development.
- Work with students and faculty mentors as part of the LLC program (upper-class themed housing communities) (if applicable).
- Manage residential area budget and departmental accounting procedures.
Student Support and Crisis Management
- Maintain a system of intervention and referral for students experiencing academic or personal difficulties which includes collaborating with various campus partners.
- Understand, communicate, and hold students accountable to University policies and procedures.
- Educate and inform residents of Residential Life policies and community standards.
- Provide accountability and restore community impact for policy violations through educational and restorative obligations.
- Serve in the On-Call duty rotation to provide 24-hour incident and crisis response to the larger residential community.
Departmental and University Administration
- Serve on Residential Education committees providing leadership to various components of the Residential Education program and experience.
- Assist with departmental administration (i.e., staff selection, training, housing selection, operations, assessment, etc.).
- Serve on various university, division, and departmental committees as needed.
Communication and Partnerships
- Maintain open lines of communication with different constituencies, including parents, campus partners, and academic partners.
- Work with academic administrators, partners, and faculty to enhance and promote student-faculty interaction in the residential areas.
- Serve as an active liaison between the housekeeping and maintenance team members.
- Work with neighborhood associations and campus/community relations to increase positive relationships between residents and our surrounding communities (if applicable).
Other duties as assigned.
