Job description

SpringPath Mental Health Services, a part of the Sevita family, provides behavioral health services through Intensive Residential Treatment, Assertive Community Treatment, and Targeted Case Management programs. We embrace a person-centered approach that is trauma informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented. Our dedicated team supports individuals with mental health, psychiatric, or other complex needs to overcome challenges, build skills, and live a full, meaningful life.


SUMMARY

The Certified Peer Specialist, works as part of the Intensive Residential Treatment Service team, which provides care and treatment for persons who are experiencing significant mental health/psychiatric symptoms, who are demonstrating significant functional impairments, and who may have co-occurring substance use disorders. Certified Peer Support Specialists are fully integrated team members who provide individualized and group services in the residence and the community and promote person served self-determination and decision making. Certified Peer Support Specialists also provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which each person’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function listed below.

  • Willingness to provide peer-recovery education.
  • Assist peers with assessing their unique strengths and abilities.
  • Help peers with identifying, developing, and working towards recovery goals.
  • Assist peers with developing self-advocacy skills.
  • Help peers identify and access appropriate professional resources.
  • Provide education for team members regarding the recovery process.
  • Assist in implementing and the development of individual treatment plans.
  • Participates in care coordination meetings as needed.
  • Serves as a link to community resources, teaches and models client self-advocacy and acts as a community liaison/educator.
  • Reports significant/major incidents or accidents.
  • Medication administration and documentation.
  • Adheres to data privacy practices/HIPAA.
  • Assists in discharge planning.
  • Demonstrates professional competency in the documentation of treatment services.
  • Provides objective verbal and written critical incident analysis.
  • Documents essential activities related to licensure, welfare, and safety.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Minimum Knowledge and Skills required for the Job

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required to perform the job.

 

Education and Experience: 

  • A GED or high school diploma is required.
  • Associate of Arts degree in one of the Behavioral Sciences or Human Services preferred.

 

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Have a valid Driver’s License and car insurance.
  • Successful completion of the MN Department of Human Services approved Certified Peer Support Specialist training and certification exam.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Have or had a primary diagnosis of mental illness.
  • Be a current or former consumer of mental health services and/or experience in the field while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrate dedication to promoting recovery opportunities in the lives of peers.
  • Demonstrate ability to utilize own lived experience of recovery to inspire recovery in the lives of peers.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the agency.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and multitask.
  • Proficiency with using company technology.
  • Must meet all agency requirements for pre-employment as required by SpringPath and/or MN State regulations.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Travel as needed.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
