Dirigo Management Companyย is seeking an experiencedย Accounting Managerย to lead our accounting operations and bookkeeping team from our Portland, Maine headquarters. This is an opportunity to join one of Maine's leading property management companies, whereย you'llย play a key leadership role overseeing accounting operations, improving processes, and helping drive the company's continued growth.ย 

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.ย 

  • 5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably within property management, condominium/homeowner association management, or real estate.ย 

  • Demonstrated leadership experience withย a track recordย of coaching, mentoring, and managingย accounting or bookkeeping teams.ย 

  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles, financial reporting, and billing processes.ย 

  • Advanced Excel skills.ย 

  • Experience with property managementย accounting software preferred,ย Peachtree (Sage), and NetSuite.ย 

  • Strong communicationย and leadership abilities.ย 

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities withย a high levelย of accuracy.ย 

  • Experience with condominium/HOA, commercial, and residential accounting.ย 

  • Knowledge of trust accounting, reserve fund accounting, and CAM reporting.ย 

  • Experience managing corporate billing and contract-based invoicing.ย 

  • Ability to work onsite full time in Portland, Maineย

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate bookkeeping staff whileย establishingย department procedures, workflows, and performance standards.ย 

  • Acts as the primary liaison betweenย Dirigoย and Corporate, ensuring clear communication, alignment, and execution of organizational initiatives.ย 

  • Ensureย accurateย andย timelyย completion of accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger activity, and month-end/year-end close processes.ย ย 

  • Monitor workload distribution, staffing needs, cash management procedures, and internal financial controls.ย ย 

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and applicable regulatory requirements.ย ย 

  • Manage corporate billing operations, including reviewing contracts and management agreements to ensure billing accuracy and maximize revenue capture.ย ย 

  • Coordinate with external CPAs, auditors, and tax professionals as needed.ย ย 

  • Serve as a resource for accounting-related questions from community managers, board members, and company leadership.ย ย 

  • Support payroll processing andย maintainย a working knowledge of payroll systems.ย ย 

  • Assistย with the implementation and optimization of accounting and property management software, including the development of reporting tools and operational metrics.ย
