Join the Graham Aquatic Center and take the lead in creating a smooth, organized, and welcoming experience for members and guests all summer long! As the Seasonal Outdoor Pool Manager, you will oversee daily pool operations, support staff, ensure safety standards are maintained, and help create a positive environment for everyone who visits our facility.

We're looking for a strong leader who enjoys working with people, thrives in a fast-paced outdoor environment, and is committed to providing excellent customer service and aquatic safety. This is a great opportunity to build leadership experience while playing a key role in creating a fun, safe, and memorable summer for our community.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Pool Manager is responsible for the total operation of the facility including monitoring daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations and supervises staff at the assigned outdoor pool with support from the Aquatics Director/Program Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Responsible for the appearance, presentation, and working order of the outdoor pool facility
  2. Assist in hiring, supervision, and scheduling staff to cover facility needs
  3. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and safety rules and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures, ensuring the safety of patrons and employees, including regulations about Child Abuse Prevention standards
  4. Responsible for identifying and responding appropriately to customer wants, needs, and expectations as related to areas of responsibility
  5. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff and consistently enforces rules of the pool
  6. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the State Health Department code
  7. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed
  8. Checks pool for hazardous conditions when arriving
  9. Performs chemical testing at the start of shift and end of shift, as required, and takes appropriate action as needed
  10. Maintain proper safety checks in pool area and monitor lifeguard rotation to ensure proper pool surveillance is maintained during lifeguard changes and rotations.
  11. Perform drop drills and aquatic quick checks, recording outcomes for skill assessments and future trainings.
  12. Teach classes and lifeguard when necessary.
  13. Communicates with staff and community members promptly and professionally in regards to procedures, activities, changes, weather, etc.
  14. Keep pool area neat and perform general pool maintenance when requested
  15. Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings and assist with dissemination of information
  16. Completes related reports as required

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Minimum age of 18
  2. A High School diploma or general educational development certificate
  3. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, Lifeguard Certification
  4. 2 years' experience supervising people and/or managing operations in a service industry
  5. Basic computer skills, including Micro soft office and point of sale
  6. May be required to acquire PA Pesticide Applicator Certification and Certified Pool Operator training

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard
  • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility
  • Regularly working in an outside environment and exposed to the elements
  • May have exposure to pool chemicals
  • Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness
  • See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility
  • Employee must be able to communicate effectively by speaking and listening in a loud environment
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
