Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable, professional, and safety-conscious Pharmacy Delivery Driver to join our team. The Pharmacy Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe, secure, accurate, and timely transportation of prescription medications, pharmacy products, and related medical supplies to patients, healthcare facilities, and other approved delivery locations.
This position requires a high level of reliability, professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate understands that medication delivery is an important part of patient care and will represent the pharmacy with courtesy, compassion, and professionalism during every interaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Pick up prescription medications and other approved items from the pharmacy for assigned deliveries.
  • Deliver prescriptions safely and promptly to patients' homes, healthcare facilities, assisted living facilities, and other authorized locations.
  • Review delivery information before leaving the pharmacy to ensure orders are assigned to the correct destination.
  • Follow assigned routes and delivery schedules while maintaining safe driving practices.
  • Protect medications from loss, theft, damage, contamination, or unauthorized access while in transit.
  • Maintain appropriate chain of custody for prescription medications.
  • Follow pharmacy procedures for medications requiring special handling or temperature control.
  • Verify the appropriate recipient when required and obtain signatures, electronic confirmations, or other proof of delivery.
  • Maintain complete and accurate delivery logs and other required documentation.
  • Immediately report missing, damaged, incorrect, delayed, or undeliverable prescriptions to pharmacy personnel.
  • Return undeliverable medications to the pharmacy according to established procedures.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient names, addresses, medications, medical information, and all other protected health information.
  • Follow HIPAA requirements and company privacy and confidentiality policies at all times.
  • Never discuss a patient's medication, diagnosis, treatment, or other confidential information with unauthorized individuals.
  • Refer medication, dosage, side-effect, interaction, or other clinical questions to a pharmacist or other authorized pharmacy professional.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and facility staff.
  • Maintain communication with pharmacy staff regarding delivery status, delays, route issues, or other concerns.
  • Follow all applicable traffic laws and company safe-driving policies.
  • Perform basic vehicle safety checks before beginning assigned routes.
  • Maintain the delivery vehicle in a clean, safe, and professional condition.
  • Report accidents, citations, vehicle damage, maintenance concerns, or safety issues immediately.
  • Complete required HIPAA, privacy, safety, compliance, and company training.
  • Perform other delivery, courier, or pharmacy-support duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to meet company driving requirements.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Professional communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to use GPS/navigation applications, smartphones, and electronic delivery systems.
  • Ability to safely enter and exit a vehicle repeatedly throughout a shift.
  • Ability to lift and transport pharmacy packages and supplies as required by the position.
  • Must be able to successfully complete applicable background screening and motor vehicle record review.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a pharmacy delivery driver, medical courier, delivery driver, or professional driver.
  • Previous healthcare, pharmacy, home health, or medical-delivery experience.
  • Familiarity with local streets, neighborhoods, healthcare facilities, and navigation systems.
  • Previous experience handling confidential or sensitive information.

Confidentiality & Compliance
The Pharmacy Delivery Driver may have access to confidential patient information and Protected Health Information (PHI). Employees are expected to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, applicable pharmacy requirements, company policies, and all other applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Unauthorized access, disclosure, photographing, copying, sharing, or discussion of patient information is strictly prohibited.
Employment Requirements
Employment may be contingent upon successful completion of applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include:
  • Background check
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review
  • Verification of valid driver's license
  • Verification of authorization to work in the United States
  • Drug screening, when required by company policy and permitted by applicable law
  • Completion of required HIPAA, privacy, safety, and compliance training

Work Environment
This position involves frequent driving and regular interaction with patients, caregivers, pharmacy personnel, and healthcare facilities. Drivers may encounter varying traffic and weather conditions and must exercise good judgment and prioritize safety at all times.
