Senior Software Engineer

Volund Manufacturing

Huntington Beach, CA • On-site

$145K - $185K/yr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement, PTO

Job description

Volund is building propulsion for America’s next industrial revolution.
We design propulsion systems for cost, agility, and scale, combining advanced automation, precision manufacturing, and rapid iteration to move from prototype to production at unprecedented speed.
Intelligent manufacturing is engineering at scale.
At Volund, engineers operate across the full stack, from concept and simulation to process code and machine execution, ensuring that what is designed can be built and what is built can be scaled.
Role Overview
Volund is hiring a Software Engineer — Digital Thread Platform to strengthen the software backbone that connects our engineering, manufacturing, and quality operations.
This role reports to the Software Lead and focuses on building and scaling Vorion, our internal MES/QMS and digital thread platform. You will work across a wide range of systems — including Teamcenter (PLM), Odoo (ERP), factory-floor edge nodes, and cloud infrastructure — to create seamless data flows and operational tools.
This is not a narrow frontend, backend, or DevOps role. We’re looking for a pragmatic, high-ownership engineer who is comfortable working across the full stack, learning new domains, and turning ambiguous operational problems into reliable software.

Responsibilities
  • Build and scale Vorion, our core internal platform for manufacturing execution, quality management, and digital thread connectivity
  • Develop integrations and data flows between Teamcenter, Odoo, Vorion, factory-floor systems, and cloud services
  • Create modern internal web applications, real-time dashboards, and user-facing tools using React and TypeScript
  • Design and implement backend services, APIs, and event-driven architectures (primarily in Go)
  • Support factory-floor edge computing initiatives, including machine data ingestion, telemetry processing, and production visibility
  • Contribute to cloud infrastructure using Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and Azure to improve deployment reliability and observability
  • Build features that enable security, traceability, auditability, and compliance needs (CMMC readiness, NIST controls, ITAR/EAR, etc.)
  • Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to translate business, security, and operational requirements into practical software solutions
  • Own projects end-to-end — from scoping through delivery — while helping mature systems as Volund grows

Qualifications
Required
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent demonstrated ability)
  • Strong fundamentals in fullstack, backend, or product-focused software development
  • Hands-on experience building production-grade applications, APIs, databases, and integrations
  • Comfort working across the stack (frontend, backend, infrastructure, and third-party systems)
  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar technologies and debug complex, cross-system issues
  • High ownership, self-direction, and a pragmatic, execution-oriented mindset
  • Genuine interest in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, hardware, or operational software challenges

Preferred Experience
Strong candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Go for backend services and APIs
  • React + TypeScript, TanStack Query, RxJS, or real-time frontend systems
  • Redis, event streams, queues, or pub/sub architectures
  • Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure (Azure)
  • ERP systems (especially Odoo), PLM systems (especially Teamcenter), MES, or QMS platforms
  • Factory-floor integrations, Industrial IoT, edge computing, or machine telemetry
  • Aerospace, defense, robotics, hardware manufacturing, or other regulated environments
  • Familiarity with CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, DFARS, ITAR/EAR, or secure enterprise systems

Salary Range:
$145,000 - $185,000 USD
The salary range above is an estimate only with final amount being dependent on a wide variety of factors.  All roles include a generous equity package and the following benefits:
  • Platinum Healthcare Benefits with comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans at no cost to you.
  • 100% covered Basic Life/AD&D and long-term disability insurance
  • 401k
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Lunch and fully stocked kitchen
  • This role does not offer relocation
  • This role is full time on site, no hybrid or remote option
