Job description

The Ph.D. Exercise Physiologist will serve as a key clinical, academic, and strategic leader within Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic. This role is designed to support rapid programmatic growth and expansion of cardiopulmonary services, including preventive cardiology, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. The incumbent will not only provide clinical and academic expertise but will also lead the development, scaling, and integration of innovative, physiology-driven care models in Florida and across the enterprise. This position offers a clear leadership trajectory, with opportunities to build and oversee teams, develop new clinical programs, and drive institutional and national innovation in exercise-based cardiovascular care.

Primary clinical and leadership responsibilities may include:

  • Preventive Cardiology & Integrated Exercise Physiology Services (Program Growth Lead)

  • CPET Laboratory Leadership: Provide expert interpretation of CPET and exercise ECGs; direct testing operations, including protocol selection and advanced physiologic assessments 

  • Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Leadership: Provide leadership within a rapidly expanding CR/PR program, aligned with increasing referral volumes and new clinical indications 

  • Program Development, Innovation & Strategic Growth: Serve as a key architect of program growth, aligned with projected 3-5-year expansion plans 

  • Education & Mentorship: Develop and lead formal training programs in CPET and clinical exercise physiology 

  • Research Leadership & Program Building: Serve as a leader in clinical and translational research programs in exercise/clinical and human physiology 

    • Develop and lead externally funded research programs (NIH, AHA, PCORI, industry)
