Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking a specialized Exercise Physiologist to independently Conduct Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), also known as VO₂ max testing, for pediatric patients with congenital heart disease. This role requires clinical expertise in CPET administration, interpretation of exercise ECG and metabolic data, and the ability to work empathetically with children. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in clinical CPET and a background in youth coaching or fitness training.
Job Responsibilities
  • Independently administer CPET/VO₂ max tests on pediatric patients with congenital heart disease.
  • Monitor and interpret cardiovascular and metabolic responses during exercise testing.
  • Ensure patient safety by observing heart rate, ECG changes, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure.
  • Make decisions regarding test termination and perform emergency procedures if necessary.
  • Transfer and organize test data for physician interpretation.
  • Maintain and sterilize exercise testing equipment.
  • Provide emotional support and motivation to pediatric patients during testing.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree
Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field with at least 3 years of CPET testing experience,
  • Master's degree in Exercise Physiology or related specialty with at least 1 year of CPET testing experience.
  • Prior experience conducting clinical CPETs/VO₂ max tests independently is required.
  • Experience working with children, ideally as a fitness coach or youth athletics coach, is highly preferred. Strong understanding of exercise ECG and metabolic data (normal vs. abnormal).
  • Ability to motivate and comfort pediatric patients during testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Patience and a high capacity for empathy and perseverance.
Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS Certification (issued by the American Heart Association)
  • ACSM certification preferred: Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CCEP), Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP), or Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP), or equivalent.
