Job description

Join Help at Home as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) and make a meaningful difference in your community. You will provide one-on-one support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them live safely, independently, and with dignity in their homes and communities.

What You’ll Do

As a Direct Support Professional, you will help individuals build daily living skills, participate in their communities, and work toward their personal goals.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Reading, understanding, and following each individual’s Individual Support Plan
  • Reporting updates, progress, and concerns to the IDD Program Specialist
  • Assisting with daily living activities such as cooking, cleaning, grooming, hygiene, and transportation
  • Encouraging participation in shopping, social events, appointments, and other community activities
  • Supporting individuals as they work toward personal goals and greater independence
  • Promoting personal choice, self-advocacy, dignity, and respect
  • Accurately documenting services, activities, and progress
  • Communicating with team members to provide consistent, high-quality support

Required Qualifications

Candidates must be at least 18 years old and meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a state-approved training program
  • Demonstrated competency and a passing score on the required written competency test

Candidates must also have:

  • The ability to successfully complete required background checks and in-service training
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation with proof of insurance, vehicle registration, and inspection
  • The ability to provide safe and respectful support in individuals’ homes and communities
  • Compassion, reliability, and a commitment to helping others

*New Hire Milestone Bonus: The $1,000 new hire milestone bonus is valid for caregivers that start on 6/22/2026 or later. This new hire bonus is paid in 8 increments, with the total accumulated $1,000 paid out after the caregiver has worked 1,000 hours from the start date. Caregivers must be active and must use electronic visit verification for hours to accumulate toward payout milestones. Caregivers transferring from an organization within the Help at Home, LLC portfolio of companies are not eligible to receive the bonus. Former employees must be returning after an absence period of at least one year to be eligible. The milestones must be reached within 18 months from start date.


Caregivers must comply with state background screening requirements. Compensation, benefits, time off, and bonuses vary by state and location, so please ask for complete details at your interview.
