What are live-in graphic designers?

Live-in graphic designers are creative professionals who reside on-site with their employer or client, typically to provide immediate and ongoing graphic design services. This arrangement is often found in settings like private estates, remote work retreats, or creative agencies needing constant visual content creation. Live-in designers handle tasks such as branding, digital media, print materials, and sometimes web design. The role may include flexible hours and diverse responsibilities, making it ideal for those seeking a unique, immersive work environment.

Is AI replacing graphic designers?

AI tools are increasingly used in graphic design to automate repetitive tasks and generate ideas, but they do not fully replace graphic designers. Skilled designers are still essential for creative direction, complex projects, and nuanced visual communication that require human judgment and expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Live In Graphic Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Graphic Designer, you need strong skills in visual design, typography, and layout, typically supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Proficiency in industry-standard software like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with digital asset management systems are essential. Excellent communication, adaptability, and the ability to collaborate closely with clients or team members in a shared environment are standout soft skills. These abilities ensure the delivery of high-quality, on-brand visual content while fostering effective working relationships in a live-in or on-site setting.

Where do most graphic designers live?

Most graphic designers tend to live in urban areas with vibrant creative industries, such as major cities and metropolitan regions. These locations often offer more job opportunities, networking events, and access to clients, which are important for freelance and agency work. Many designers also work remotely, allowing them to live anywhere with a reliable internet connection.

What are some unique challenges and benefits of working as a Live In Graphic Designer compared to a traditional studio role?

As a Live In Graphic Designer, you’ll typically reside at a client’s residence or workplace, which means you'll be closely integrated with the client or team. This arrangement allows for faster feedback, deeper understanding of the client’s vision, and the ability to pivot quickly on creative projects. However, maintaining work-life boundaries can be challenging, as the lines between personal and professional time may blur. Success in this role often depends on clear communication, adaptability, and strong organizational skills to manage expectations and workflow.

Are graphic design jobs still in demand?

Graphic design jobs remain in demand as businesses continue to need visual content for branding, marketing, and digital platforms. Skills in software like Adobe Creative Suite and adaptability to new media are important for success in this field.

Can I work from home as a graphic designer?

Live-in graphic designers often have the flexibility to work remotely, especially if their tasks involve digital design, using tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Canva. However, some projects or clients may require on-site presence or meetings, so remote work availability depends on the employer and project requirements.

The Marketing + Communications team develops and executes strategic marketing initiatives that promote all of American Structurepoint’s services. We are seeking a Graphic Designer with strong visual, digital, and web design skills to concept and execute proposals, marketing collateral, advertisements, website elements, and sales materials that consistently reflect and elevate our brand. This role balances creative thinking with thoughtful execution and requires comfort working across multiple platforms while managing competing priorities.

  • Design engaging layouts that integrate text, iconography, photography, interactive elements, and graphics across print and digital platforms
  • Collaborate with writers, proposal coordinators, and marketing team members to translate content into compelling visual solutions for both print and web
  • Design and update website elements, landing pages, and digital assets while ensuring a consistent brand experience
  • Work with web development partners to create wireframes and mockups with a focus on usability, responsiveness, and UI/UX best practices
  • Apply current and emerging design trends while adhering to foundational design principles
  • Present and clearly articulate design concepts
  • Incorporate feedback from internal clients and marketing leadership into polished final deliverables
  • Review all work for accuracy, quality, and consistency prior to printing, publishing, or digital launch
  • Assist in planning and directing photography to support both print and digital marketing initiatives
  • Support motion graphics or animated content for digital platforms when appropriate, in collaboration with the broader team
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Web Design, Animation, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 5 or more years of experience in a design firm or collaborative creative team environment
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, with a strong emphasis on InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Experience with or exposure to modern web and UI design tools (such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch), with interest in helping expand digital design workflows
  • Understanding of printing and production processes, as well as digital publishing and web workflows
  • Experience working within brand standards while evolving and elevating visual identity

Portfolio Requirement

A portfolio showcasing both print and digital/web design work is required. Candidates must submit either a PDF portfolio or a link to an online portfolio for consideration.
