Job description

What Your Day Will Look Like:

As a GIS Analyst supporting the environmental team within our transportation civil engineering practice, you will analyze and manage geospatial data to support environmental planning, permitting, and compliance efforts. You will develop high-quality maps, spatial analyses, and data visualizations to inform decision-making across a range of transportation infrastructure projects. This role partners closely with environmental scientists, engineers, and project teams to deliver accurate environmental assessment data and insights to clients and stakeholders.

What You'll Do:

  • Integrate environmental, regulatory, and infrastructure datasets (e.g., wetlands, endangered species, land use, ROW) to support project planning and permitting.
  • Support NEPA and other environmental review processes by preparing exhibits, constraints mapping, and impact assessments.
  • Conduct field data collection using GPS/GNSS tools and mobile GIS applications to validate and enhance spatial datasets.
  • Maintain, update, and manage geospatial databases ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with environmental scientists, planners, and engineers to identify project constraints and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and maintain standardized GIS workflows, templates, and metadata documentation to ensure consistency across projects.
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) on spatial data, maps, and deliverables prior to client submission.
  • Support utility, right-of-way, and environmental constraints mapping for transportation corridor studies and design projects.
  • Create web maps, dashboards, and interactive tools to communicate spatial data and project insights to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with proposal development by preparing maps, graphics, and technical content to support business development efforts.

What You'll Need:

 
  • Experience working with environmental, transportation, or infrastructure-related geospatial datasets.
  • Working knowledge of spatial analysis techniques, data management, and geoprocessing tools.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and frameworks (e.g., NEPA, wetlands, endangered species) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in GIS data visualization, cartography principles, and map production standards.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform QA/QC on data and deliverables.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary project teams.
