Job Summary:

The GIS Engineer will interpret maps, manipulate digital land data, and manage the information entered in our GIS database.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Design and edit GIS data
  • Ensure alignment of data with CNS standards
  • Maintain data integrity and accuracy
  • Utilize QGIS in data visualization and presentation
  • Use systems of collecting and managing data points
  • Research and verify spatial data
  • Initiate internal work order requests for other departments necessary to complete entire project.
  • Update necessary tracking system(s) to ensure project and/or program status is maintained with complete accuracy, including third party management systems.
  • Communicate all issues to management prior to reaching critical status.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and complete files for projects, monitoring for integrity and completeness.
  • Always meet or exceed internal and external quality standards, and on-time delivery.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Associate’s degree in GIS, or related field preferred, or a GIS Certificate
  • 1-4 years of experience with QGIS or ArcGIS, but any other experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated understanding of GIS principles
  • Deadline driven, self-motivated, and technically savvy
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
  • Superior time management
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to be flexible, take direction with ease, including changes to schedule and workflow priorities
  • Critical thinking skills; make assessments and provide solutions to problems.
  • Ability to maintain professional tact in a fast-paced work environment with internal personnel and clients

  • GRIT (guts, reliability, innovation and teamwork) Experience working in a Windows environment; Office 365, SharePoint and MS Excel Knowledge, or client proprietary design systems

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline preferred
  • Construction experience preferred
  • Field experience preferred
  • Knowledge & experience in telecommunications, outside plant engineering design or field inspection, and/or network construction
  • Knowledge of fiber networking, routing, and network management
  • Knowledge and understanding of various broadband network designs and architecture
  • Beginner knowledge & understanding of engineering concepts, and how fielding, planning, engineering, and construction parts of a job align
  • Beginner knowledge & ability to learn how to design work prints for multiple job types

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting: Frequently required to sit for extended periods, especially when working at a computer or desk.
  • Manual Dexterity: Regular use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls (e.g., typing, using a mouse, handling documents).
  • Reaching: Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
