Lead a Trusted Platform. Support Clients. Strengthen Key Relationships.

First Business Bank is seeking a Director to lead our Company Retirement Plans business within Private Wealth. This role offers the opportunity to step into an established, well-respected platform and ensure its continued success through strong client stewardship, team leadership, and partnership across the organization.

Our company retirement plan business is a core value-added service for our commercial clients and prospects. As Director, you’ll play a key role in maintaining that offering and guiding strategy, delivering a high-quality experience, supporting internal partnerships, and ensuring long-term client satisfaction, while identifying opportunities to further strengthen and expand relationships over time. This leadership position will be a player-coach, managing a team of retirement planning professionals.

Lead Client Relationships & Delivery

  • Serve as a senior relationship lead for retirement plan clients
  • Provide consultative guidance to plan sponsors and committees
  • Ensure a consistent, high-touch fiduciary experience

Strengthen Internal Partnerships

  • Partner closely with Commercial Banking and Private Wealth teams
  • Support bankers in delivering retirement plan solutions to their clients
  • Maintain and deepen strong referral-based relationships

Lead & Develop a High-Performing Team

  • Manage and coach a team of retirement plan professionals
  • Foster a collaborative, service-oriented, and accountable culture
  • Support team development and continuity over time

Oversee Operations & Platform

  • Manage key vendor and recordkeeper relationships
  • Ensure strong governance, compliance, and operational execution
  • Help maintain and evolve the platform in line with client needs

Contribute to Business Development

  • Participate in client and prospect conversations alongside internal partners
  • Bring a broad perspective to presentations and relationship discussions
  • Identify opportunities to deepen existing relationships and pursue new ones where it aligns with client needs
    (This role values a commercial mindset, without a singular focus on originating new business.)

Experience & Background

  • 10+ years in retirement plan services
  • Broad experience across client service, plan design, and business development
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing and developing teams
  • Strong understanding of ERISA and fiduciary best practices
  • Effective and well-developed interpersonal skills to work with a variety of prospects, clients and other team members
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written, to communicate within the Division and with prospects and clients
  • Working knowledge of portfolio management principles and how the markets operate
  • Working knowledge of financial planning
  • Experience supporting or participating in client and prospect discussions
  • Ability to partner effectively with internal teams, particularly commercial banking
  • Comfortable representing the business in client-facing situations

Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field
  • Designations or licenses not required, but would add value and success to the role (CFP, CWS, or similar designation; Series 7, 65, or 66)

Location & Travel

  • Based in Madison, WI, with flexibility to consider the Milwaukee market
  • Travel to client meetings and internal partners as needed across Wisconsin
