What is a live in estate gardener?

A Live In Estate Gardener is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the gardens and landscape of a private estate while residing on the property. Duties often include planting, pruning, lawn care, pest control, and maintaining outdoor features like pathways and water elements. This role may also involve greenhouse management, seasonal planting, and collaboration with other estate staff. Living on-site allows for immediate response to garden needs and a deeper understanding of the landscape's long-term care.

What is it like to live on-site as an estate gardener, and how does this impact your daily routine?

Living on-site as an Estate Gardener typically means you'll be an integral part of the estate's daily operations, allowing for greater flexibility in responding to urgent gardening or maintenance needs. Your day might start earlier than a typical gardening job, and you may have periodic on-call responsibilities, especially after storms or during peak growing seasons. Being based on the estate also fosters close collaboration with property owners or management, allowing you to better understand and anticipate their preferences for the gardens and grounds. This arrangement often offers unique benefits such as housing and utilities, but it also requires professionalism, respect for privacy, and clear boundaries between work and personal time.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in estate gardener, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Estate Gardener, you should have horticultural knowledge, experience with groundskeeping, and an understanding of various plant species and landscape maintenance techniques. Familiarity with irrigation systems, landscaping tools, and pest management protocols or relevant horticulture certifications is often required. Reliability, strong communication skills, discretion, and the ability to work independently are key soft skills in this role. These qualities ensure the estate is expertly maintained, resident expectations are met, and high standards of privacy and professionalism are upheld.

  • Stay Current & Contribute to the Firm: Maintain current knowledge of estate planning, trusts and estates, probate, Medicaid, VA benefits, taxation, and long-term care planning, while contributing to Firm initiatives, educational programs, and practice improvements.

  • Strong commitment to providing exceptional client service.

  • At least one (1) year of trust and estate administration or probate experience.

  • Active, in-good-standing West Virginia law license, or willingness to obtain one within the first year of employment.
  • Experience with estate planning, trusts, Medicaid planning, probate, or long-term care planning.

  • Proactive and willing to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Adaptable and comfortable in a growing and evolving Firm.
