Job description

NEW OPENING    |.    THE BUTCHER’S DAUGHTER AUSTIN
HIRING - SPECIALTY COFFEE / THIRD-WAVE BARISTA

The Butcher’s Daughter is coming to Austin, and we’re building our opening team!

The Butcher’s Daughter is a plant-forward restaurant, café, and juice bar known for vibrant, seasonal food, thoughtfully crafted beverages, warm hospitality, and spaces designed to bring people together. With locations in Los Angeles and New York, we’re excited to bring The Butcher’s Daughter to South Congress in Austin.

We’re looking for experienced Specialty Coffee / Third-Wave Baristas who are passionate about coffee, craft, and hospitality to join our Austin opening team.

THE ROLE

Coffee is an important part of The Butcher’s Daughter experience, and we’re looking for Baristas who approach it with both technical skill and genuine hospitality.

Our ideal Barista understands that great coffee goes beyond operating an espresso machine. You should be comfortable dialing in espresso, evaluating extraction, adjusting grind and dose, properly steaming milk, executing latte art, and maintaining quality and consistency throughout a high-volume service.

We want Baristas who are curious about coffee, interested in origin and sourcing, and excited to continue developing their craft.

Just as importantly, you should love hospitality. Our Baristas are part of the guest experience and should be warm, engaging, knowledgeable, and excited to share what we're serving.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare consistently excellent espresso and specialty coffee beverages according to our recipes and standards
  • Dial in espresso at the beginning of service and make adjustments throughout the day as conditions change
  • Understand and monitor grind size, dose, yield, extraction time, and flavor
  • Taste espresso regularly and make adjustments based on extraction and flavor
  • Properly steam and texture dairy and alternative milks
  • Execute clean, consistent latte art
  • Prepare espresso drinks, coffee, matcha, tea, and other specialty beverages
  • Maintain consistency in beverage taste, temperature, texture, presentation, and portioning
  • Execute drinks efficiently and accurately during high-volume service
  • Develop strong knowledge of the coffees we serve, including origin, producer, processing method, roast profile, and tasting notes
  • Confidently speak with guests about our coffee and beverage program
  • Make thoughtful recommendations based on guest preferences
  • Maintain proper espresso-machine and grinder setup throughout service
  • Keep equipment calibrated, clean, and operating at a high standard
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient barista station
  • Monitor coffee, milk, alternative milk, and other product levels throughout service
  • Complete opening, closing, prep, cleaning, and side-work responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with Servers, Bartenders, Hosts, Kitchen, and Management
  • Work collaboratively with the entire restaurant team
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and company standards
  • Bring curiosity, professionalism, and positive energy to the team
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Minimum 2 years of professional barista experience in a specialty / third-wave coffee environment strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a busy, high-volume specialty café or restaurant
  • Strong understanding of espresso extraction and dialing in
  • Working knowledge of dose, yield, grind adjustment, extraction time, and espresso ratios
  • Ability to taste espresso critically and make appropriate adjustments
  • Excellent milk steaming and texturing technique
  • Strong latte art skills
  • Experience working with professional commercial espresso machines and grinders
  • Familiarity with specialty and single-origin coffees
  • Understanding of coffee origins, processing methods, roast profiles, and tasting notes
  • Knowledge of alternative milks and how they behave differently when steamed
  • Ability to execute drinks quickly without sacrificing quality or consistency
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and detail
  • Genuine interest in continuing to learn about coffee
  • Warm, confident, and engaging hospitality
  • Ability to multitask and remain composed under pressure
  • Strong sense of urgency and team-first mentality
  • Reliable, professional, and punctual
  • Flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
  • Excited to be part of a new restaurant opening and help establish a strong coffee culture from day one
WHY THE BUTCHER’S DAUGHTER?

We believe great restaurants are built by great people. We’re creating a team that values hospitality, collaboration, creativity, accountability, and having fun while doing excellent work.

Joining our Austin opening team is an opportunity to get in from the beginning, help shape the culture of our newest location, and grow with The Butcher’s Daughter.
