Emergency Medical Services Academy - EMT Class
Hourly Wage- $16.50 an hour
Summary:
EMT Certification Course is a 12-week program that involves completing a state-approved education program in Emergency Medical Technology, passing a cognitive and practical exam, and obtaining a license to practice in the State of New York
Empress is currently recruiting individuals interested in joining our next "Earn to Learn" Academy program. Empress EMS is the largest provider of EMS in the Hudson Valley Region, providing both emergency and non-emergency transport of patients.
Upon successfully passing the New York State Exam, the EMT will work on the frontlines of Empress EMS providing emergency treatment to the sick and injured. Empress EMS offers career paths for all EMTs within the organization, with the ability to grow within to different areas of EMS, including logistics, community paramedic division, Quality improvement, special operations division, and the emergency communications center. EMTS can also take advantage of the Empress EMS paramedic scholarship program to advance their careers to become a paramedic.
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. A valid Driver's License- Driving record must meet company requirements.
  2. Satisfactorily completes all aspects of the pre-employment process administered by and /or for Empress Ambulance Service, LLC. inclusive of drug screening/background check and physical agility test (CPAT).
  3. Must be at least 19 years of age.
  4. High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Work Environment:
Primarily the Academy Student will be in a Classroom and or SIM Lab setting and will occasionally attend ride along with a licensed EMT and or Paramedic. Works outdoors and indoors with occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and to blood/body fluids, requires respirator use, fumes/odors, extended day, and temperature changes. Frequently works with others, face-to-face contact with others with exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment. Performs shift work and performs duties frequently in a mobile environment and in confined areas.
Physical Requirements:
An EMT/Student is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The An EMT/Student is required to sit; climb or balance; step, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The An EMT/Student must frequently lift and/or carry a maximum of 150 pounds unassisted and up to 300 pounds as part of a two-person crew. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
