POSITION OVERVIEW

STi is seeking an Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) Inspector/Maintainer to support U.S. Coast Guard aircraft maintenance services at Air Station Kodiak, Alaska.

Air Station Kodiak supports aviation operations across one of the most challenging operating environments in the country, including the Gulf of Alaska, Bristol Bay, the Bering Sea, and the North Pacific. The mission requires reliable aviation maintenance professionals who can support aircraft readiness, rescue and survival equipment, Liquid Oxygen (LOX) systems, and mission-critical Aviation Life Support Equipment.

The ALSE Inspector/Maintainer will perform scheduled and unscheduled inspection, maintenance, overhaul, repair, servicing, function testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and support for USCG aviation rescue and survival equipment. This role is well suited for candidates with experience as a Coast Guard Aviation Survival Technician, DoD Aviation Life Support Equipment technician, Navy Aircrew Survival Equipmentman, Air Force Aircrew Flight Equipment technician, ALSE technician, AFE technician, PR, aircraft maintenance technician, or comparable military aviation maintenance professional.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include:

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspection, maintenance, overhaul, repair, and servicing of Aviation Life Support Equipment.

• Inspect inflatable equipment, survival equipment, survival kits, rescue equipment, protective equipment, and helicopter rescue swimmer equipment at required intervals.

• Perform inspection, overhaul, repair, servicing, function testing, and troubleshooting of ALSE systems and related aircraft support equipment.

• Support scheduled and unscheduled Liquid Oxygen (LOX) maintenance, servicing, function testing, troubleshooting, and repair recommendations.

• Determine whether ALSE or LOX systems are operating properly and identify the type and extent of repair required.

• Use standard and specialized tools, fixtures, templates, scales, test stands, external power sources, and related equipment of the trade.

• Read, understand, and apply technical manuals, technical orders, maintenance procedure cards, blueprints, sketches, OEM manuals, and related technical documents.

• Review technical guides and maintenance documentation to ensure current changes are included and applied correctly.

• Report technical discrepancies, confusing procedures, errors, or poorly presented information to the appropriate supervisor for resolution.

• Follow assigned work orders and complete required paperwork and maintenance documentation in accordance with Coast Guard technical guidelines.

• Conduct research using USCG aviation maintenance data systems such as ATIP, ALMIS, or similar maintenance information systems.

• Initiate or support requisitions for needed parts, supplies, technical publications, and maintenance resources.

• Demonstrate or explain proper techniques, methods of operation, and safety practices as needed.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

• Clean, lubricate, maintain, and properly account for assigned tools and equipment.

• Transport, store, use, or support handling of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes during maintenance operations.

• Follow applicable safety, PPE, HAZMAT, environmental, and occupational health procedures.

• Work in hangar, aircraft, industrial, and maintenance environments, including cramped or awkward work areas, ladders, platforms, scaffolding, and aircraft structures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

U.S. Citizenship required.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).

• Must meet one (1) of the following:

• Graduate of USCG Aviation Survival Technician School; OR
• Graduate of a DoD-facilitated Aviation Life Safety Equipment School; OR

• At least three (3) years experience inspecting, maintaining, and modifying aviation rescue and survival equipment on similar aircrafts to that being supported is required. Five (5) years experience is desired.

• Knowledge of ALSE parts, components, assemblies, rescue/survival equipment, and aviation life support systems.

• Experience supporting HC-130, C-130, MH-60, MH-65, rotary-wing, fixed-wing, or comparable aviation platforms.

• Possess extensive knowledge of a wide variety of LOX containers, servicing, and how LOX integrates with C-130J aircraft systems.

• Ability to conduct research using USCG aviation data systems such as ATIP or similar systems.

• Knowledge of safety procedures common to the trade, including PPE, HAZMAT, and hazardous waste handling requirements.

• Ability to work in regulated areas where toxic materials may be present, including hexavalent chromium and cadmium, while using required PPE.

• Physical ability to perform aircraft maintenance work, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, crouching, kneeling, climbing ladders/platforms, and working in cramped or awkward positions.

• Ability to frequently lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or carry up to 50 pounds with assistance or mechanical lifting devices when required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5 or more years of experience inspecting, maintaining, or modifying aviation rescue and survival equipment.

• Active Secret security clearance preferred.

• Current FAA Airframe & Powerplant license with recent aviation maintenance experience preferred but not required when another required qualification pathway is met.

• Prior U.S. Coast Guard, DoD, DHS, military aviation, or Federal aviation maintenance experience.

• Prior experience as a USCG Aviation Survival Technician, Navy Aircrew Survival Equipmentman, Air Force Aircrew Flight Equipment technician, ALSE technician, PR, AFE, or equivalent.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work will be performed onsite at USCG Air Station Kodiak, AK.

• Work areas may include hangars, aircraft, maintenance shops, industrial areas, and inside/outside environments subject to noise, dust, heat, cold, and inclement weather.

• Core work hours are generally Monday through Friday, 0800–1600 Alaska Standard Time.

• Work may occur outside standard hours, including weekends or occasional night work, depending on USCG operational schedules and aircraft availability.

• Contractor employees shall work no more than 40 hours per week unless otherwise authorized.

• Work may involve exposure to dirt, solvents, fuel, grease, fumes, slippery surfaces, hazardous materials, toxic materials, and regulated work areas.

• Appropriate PPE and safety procedures are required.
