Job description

Under supervision of the Preschool Director, plans, develops and instructs students by taking the approved curriculum goals, standards, learning objectives and learning experiences that will contribute to the development of skills and academic achievements. A teacher must have an understanding of team ministry and an attitude that exemplifies working as one within the school ministry. Each teacher embraces opportunities to witness a Christian faith to the school family, community and each other. Each teacher is regularly involved in Christian worship and Bible study.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include the illustrative list of tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics teachers perform in this ministry position.
Tasks
  • Models God's unconditional love in respectful nurturing of each unique child.
  • Plans and implements a program that follows the approved curriculum standards, goals and objectives.
  • Uses effective teaching techniques, materials and educational experiences to support instruction within curriculum guidelines.
  • Provides enrichment events and activities related to curriculum.
  • Communicates assignments and objectives to students in a well-organized manner, using clear and precise language.
  • Monitors and assesses student progress to provide regular feedback to students, their parents, and the administration.
  • Diagnoses, instructs and evaluates specific student needs and seeks assistance as necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains fair and just standards for student behavior needed to achieve an effective and safe learning environment.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and legible records as required by law and school policy.
  • Follow guidelines for health, sanitation and safety as outlined by Kansas Department of Health Rules of License.
  • Communicates concerns and ideas with colleagues, students, parents, and the community in an articulate, Christian, and professional manner.
  • Establishes and functions as a ministry team member with other staff members, administration, and the general school community.
  • Displays an understanding and willingness to participate in school ministry.
  • Actively participates in Christian congregation life through worship, Bible study, and similar opportunities.
  • Maintains professional competence
  • Performs other related, similar, or logical duties as required or assigned.

Supervision Exercised
The teacher supervises students in the classroom, on the school campus, and off-campus at school-related
activities. Teachers may also monitor the activities of a teacher aide or classroom volunteers.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a school setting. The noise level is moderate. The physical demands described are
representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk and/or listen. The employee must often walk short distances, sometimes over uneven terrain.
Requirements
  • Knowledge and belief in Jesus Christ as their Savior, living and sharing that love with others.
  • The knowledge that each child is a unique individual and a special gift of God.
  • Knowledge of the developmental stages of children and appropriate expectations for each age.
  • Skill in facilitating learning experiences that support curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Skills in effective classroom management.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, their parents, the school administration and fellow colleagues.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to changing priorities with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to witness and live as a Christian in faith.

Qualifications
  • Professing Christian who actively attends an evangelical church
  • CDA, Bachelor's degree, or higher in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of child development and age-appropriate practices
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to meet Kansas licensing requirements (background check, health requirements)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
