What is a live in care worker?

Live In Care Workers are professionals who provide continuous, round-the-clock care and support to individuals in their own homes. They assist with daily activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication management, and household tasks, while also offering companionship. Their presence allows clients, often elderly or those with disabilities, to maintain a higher level of independence and comfort by staying in familiar surroundings. Live In Care Workers may also monitor health conditions and communicate with family members or healthcare providers as needed. This role is essential for those who require constant support but wish to avoid residential care facilities.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a live in care worker?

To thrive as a Live In Care Worker, you need a solid understanding of personal care, basic healthcare procedures, and often a relevant care certification such as NVQ/QCF in Health and Social Care. Familiarity with care planning systems, assistive devices, and record-keeping tools is typically required. Compassion, patience, and excellent communication are crucial soft skills for building trust and supporting clients’ emotional well-being.
