Job description

Architectural Designer & Portfolio Manager - Join the Team That's Redefining Custom Homebuilding

Location: Alpharetta, GA | Type: Full-Time

Driven to Design Homes That People Fall in Love With Before They're Even Built? You'll Thrive at Brown Haven Homes.

At Brown Haven Homes, we believe building a home should be just as rewarding as living in one. We're passionate about delivering a seamless, transparent, and highly personalized building experience that gives families confidence from day one. Our mission is bold: to deliver 1,000+ homes per year and set the standard as the premier custom home builder in the country.

To get there, we need someone who can design and steward our architectural product across multiple portfolios, each with its own plan strategy, elevation range, and standard option set, built to scale across every market we enter. This role is at the intersection of design, strategy, and execution. You'll partner closely with Sales, Land Development, Finance, and Design to ensure every plan we bring to market is buildable, on-brand, and ready to make families fall in love.

Mindset of a Top Architectural Designer

  • You Design With Everyone in Mind. The buyer, the builder, and the land all live in your head simultaneously. You don't design in a silo - you design for the real world.
  • You Own the Library Like It's Your Life's Work. Every plan file, every elevation, every structural option - you treat the architectural collection like the asset it is. Clean, current, and consistent. Always.
  • You Collaborate Early and Often. The best plans are never built alone. You bring Sales, Land Development, Finance, and Design into the process because alignment upfront saves everyone time and money.
  • You Sweat the Details. You know that every detail in a plan eventually becomes someone's home. That's not a responsibility you take lightly.
  • You Move Fast Without Cutting Corners. You have a "Do It Now" mindset - you keep projects moving, communicate proactively, and deliver on time without compromising quality.
  • You Hold Yourself to a Standard of Excellence. Because at the end of the day, your plans are the foundation of someone's dream.

Playbook for Success:

  • Design new architectural product and standard option offerings across multiple portfolios - each portfolio defined by a clear plan strategy, elevation range, and structural option set
  • Establish the standard option playbook for every portfolio - covered porches, decks, terrace options, luxury kitchens and baths, and the structural upgrades that define each tier
  • Maintain zero redundant plans across the architectural library - all files current, consistent, and clean across every market
  • Achieve full cross-functional alignment with Sales, Land Development, Finance, Lead Designer, Design Specialist Leader, and Head of Purchasing/Estimating/Drafting on all new plan development and portfolio decisions.

Your Responsibilities:

Plan Portfolio Development

  • Design new architectural product across multiple portfolios - defining the plan strategy, elevation range, and square footage mix for each
  • Develop the standard option offering across each product type - covered porches, decks, terrace options, luxury kitchens and baths, and the structural upgrades that differentiate each tier
  • Collaborate with Sales Leadership and Land Development to ensure all plans are buildable and aligned with market demand
  • Partner with Purchasing & Finance to ensure structural options and plan configurations are costed accurately and consistently

Architectural Library Stewardship

  • Own and maintain the Brown Haven architectural collection - ensuring all plan files are current, consistent, and free of redundancy across all markets
  • Proactively identify and eliminate duplicate or outdated plans to keep the portfolio clean and scalable
  • Serve as the single source of truth for all architectural plan files across the organization

Strategic Partnership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Maintain active, productive partnerships with Sales Leadership, Land Development, Finance, Lead Designer, Design Specialist Leader, and Head of PED
  • Communicate plan updates, portfolio changes, and development timelines clearly and consistently across all stakeholders
  • Ensure each portfolio's plans reflect what is buildable on the land types Brown Haven acquires across all markets

Your Competitive Edge:

  • Residential architectural design and plan development experience
  • Strong understanding of buildability, structural options, and land constraints
  • Ability to manage a large portfolio of plans with precision and organization
  • Cross-functional collaboration and communication skills across diverse teams
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-moving, growth-oriented environment
  • "Do It Now" mindset - you move fast, communicate clearly, and deliver

Comprehensive Benefits:

  • Flexible Time Off - we trust our leaders to manage their schedules responsibly
  • Best-in-class medical, dental, and vision benefits to keep you and your family covered
  • Life & Short-Term Disability Insurance
  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Profit Share Program
