Job description

Bringing the future into focus.
Rothera is building the premier prediction market in partnership with Robinhood and Susquehanna International Group.
By empowering traders to take positions on the events that shape our world, Rothera's platform harnesses the scale and power of financial markets to produce timely, unique, and effective information discovery for leaders and decision-makers to ask and answer their most important questions.
Rothera operates at the frontier, generating market-driven forecasts that turn intuition into insight.
About the role
The Live Events Associate is responsible for monitoring markets related to high-profile events across sports, politics, economics, digital assets, and more. This position presents an opportunity to rapidly learn about market structure, regulated exchanges and clearinghouses, and event contracts from the front lines in a customer-facing role.
Live Events Associates use Rothera's proprietary tools to record and track event outcomes, maintaining fair and orderly markets, and protecting the integrity of Rothera's tradeable products. Associates engage directly with Rothera's engineers, product managers, and executive leaders to resolve mission-critical questions and issues.
Live Events Associates exhibit high aptitude and as such may start out with limited industry exposure. To be successful they must be adaptive, highly empathic, and motivated to learn. They take initiative to understand the nuances of real-world events, and the listed contracts related to them, in a fast-moving market while mastering Rothera's trading, clearing, and data services.
Markets are constantly changing, and Live Events Associates regularly face time-sensitive, unstructured challenges in high-visibility situations where actions and decisions are consequential. This role is one of significant responsibility and requires conscientiousness and focus over extended periods. In partnership with Rothera's engineers, Associates use their deep understanding of Rothera's products and fluency with Rothera's proprietary tools and operational workflows to execute a high volume of routine settlement processes, as well as researching emergent anomalies to identify actionable solutions.
Locations
Live Events Associates can work in-person hybrid out of Rothera's New York or Chicago offices, or they can work on a fully remote basis.
Schedule
Rothera's Live Events Associates work on the front lines during the biggest events and the crucial moments when the market is most active.
Live Events Associates Operational Coverage (Thursday - Sunday)
  • First Shift: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM ET (7:00 AM - 4:00 PM PT)
  • Second Shift: 6:00 PM - 3:00 AM ET (3:00 PM - 12:00 AM PT)

In addition to core shift coverage, this role involves individualized training and milestone-based project obligations. Live Events Associates participate in strategic projects outside of core coverage shifts to meet key project objectives without compromising operational support.
What you'll do
  • Monitor real-world events and ensure that outcomes are recorded on a timely basis within Rothera's listing, trading, clearing and settlement environments
  • Maintain Rothera's listed event contracts, ensuring accurate product specifications, trading parameters, and settlement terms
  • Synthesize user feedback and coordinate communications when escalating critical event-related issues
  • Execute and maintain Rothera's operational procedures, including the final settlement of events
  • Develop expertise with Rothera trading systems, market functionality, order types, and external interfaces
  • Collaborate with internal teams at Rothera, including Technology Operations, Product Management, Sales, Quality Assurance, Compliance, and Regulation
What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • Initiative to delve beyond surface-level answers and continuously cultivate subject matter expertise
  • Disciplined attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to quickly acquire new concepts and ideas
  • Availability and commitment to flexibly accommodate an event-driven work schedule and an on-call environment
  • Significant desire to learn and contribute in a rapidly evolving environment and industry with a strong sense of curiosity and commitment to customer service
Desired, but not required
  • 1 - 2 years of experience in an institutional trading environment or a detail-driven startup environment
  • Some professional exposure to, or familiarity with, electronic trading, exchanges
  • Python programming experience, e.g., composition of simple scripts to automate manual processes or assist with routine assignments
  • Some ability to query large datasets and analyze query results
Benefits & Compensation
This position has a base salary of $80,000 - $110,000 per year, plus participation in a discretionary annual incentive bonus program.
Rothera is dedicated to advancing the careers and personal well-being of our team members. We are continuously exploring ways to support our employees holistically, including a 401(k) plan with employer match, health, vision, and dental insurance for employees and eligible dependents, paid time off, and much more.
