Location: Remote (must be located near a major airport)
Reports To: VP of Media
FLSA Status: Exempt
The American Alpine Club has an extraordinary story to tell, and the Video & Multimedia Producer plays a central role in bringing that story to life. This newly created position will establish and grow the AAC's video and multimedia storytelling capacity, creating compelling content that strengthens member engagement, expands our reach, deepens donor relationships, and highlights the impact of our programs.
Reporting to the Vice President of Media and collaborating across the organization, the Video & Multimedia Producer develops and manages multimedia production products and the production calendar while serving as a creative partner to departments throughout the AAC. This role works closely with the program, advancement (marketing and development), and leadership teams to identify stories, develop creative concepts, and produce content that advances organizational priorities and reinforces the AAC's mission.
The successful candidate is an entrepreneurial storyteller with strong creative instincts, exceptional collaboration skills, and the ability to translate authentic experiences into compelling visual narratives. They are equally comfortable interviewing longtime members, documenting events in the field, producing polished multimedia content, and managing projects from concept through final delivery. A passion for the climbing community, the outdoors, and the human stories that connect them is essential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Video Production & Storytelling
Produce compelling visual stories that communicate the impact of the American Alpine Club and support organizational priorities.
- Concept, film, edit, and deliver video content across short-form, long-form, educational, documentary, and social media formats.
- Produce documentary-style stories highlighting AAC programs.
- Capture and produce long-form interviews and oral histories featuring significant AAC members, leaders, and contributors.
- Capture live events and transform them into year-round storytelling.
- Produce promotional videos supporting AAC marketing and communications efforts.
- Ensure all video content meets AAC standards for storytelling, technical quality, accessibility, and brand consistency.
2. Podcast & Multimedia Production
Support the growth of AAC multimedia programming through high-quality audio and video production.
- Produce the Cutting Edge podcast and other audio programming.
- Record, edit, and publish podcast episodes and companion video content for social media and digital platforms.
- Develop multimedia assets that extend the reach of AAC stories across digital channels.
- Coordinate production schedules, recording logistics, and post-production workflows for multimedia projects.
3. Organizational Storytelling & Program Support
Produce story-driven multimedia content that advances the American Alpine Club's mission by supporting organizational priorities.
- Produce multimedia stories that communicate the impact of AAC programs, initiatives, and member experiences.
- Create fundraising and donor stewardship content that demonstrates the impact of philanthropic support, including annual and planned giving initiatives.
- Produce membership and marketing assets that communicate the value of joining, participating in, and supporting the AAC.
- Develop multimedia content supporting events, educational programs, lodging, and other organizational initiatives.
- Integrate recognition, including donor and corporate sponsors, into storytelling while maintaining the integrity of the AAC's mission, voice, and brand.
- Collaborate with staff across the organization to identify upcoming storytelling opportunities and produce content that supports organizational priorities.
4. Content Distribution & Platform Optimization
Prepare and optimize multimedia content for distribution across AAC's digital channels.
- Adapt video and multimedia content for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, email marketing, AAC website, and other platforms as needed.
- Optimize content length, format, captions, and technical specifications for each platform.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to support campaigns, website content, and digital communications.
- Repurpose existing content across platforms to maximize reach, engagement, and organizational value.
5. Production Planning & Asset Management
Coordinate multimedia production across the organization while maintaining efficient workflows and production standards.
- Maintain the video production calendar, balancing organizational priorities established by the VP of Media and coordinating production schedules across departments.
- Determine equipment, production resources, travel, and project requirements in partnership with the VP of Media.
- Maintain organized project files, raw footage libraries, source files, b-roll catalogs, version control, and music and talent usage documentation.
- Communicate project timelines, production capacity, and project status to internal stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for batch production, repurpose content, and improve production efficiency across the organization.
Additional Responsibilities
- Compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations as they pertain to job duties, including workplace safety, field safety, and permitting.
- Travel as needed to capture stories, programs, events, expeditions, and member experiences across the American Alpine Club.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the VP of Media.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated portfolio of video and multimedia content - excellent cinematography and editing skills (a keen eye for framing, pacing, and audio composition)
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience with project management and working cross-functionally, with the ability to own a complex, multi-stakeholder production calendar and manage multiple projects to deadline and budget
- Proficiency with industry-standard editing and post-production software such as Adobe Premiere Pro (preferred) and After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent
- Comfortable as a solo producer - operating independently in the field, problem-solving production challenges, and managing the full production cycle from concept through delivery
- Genuine love of the outdoors and climbing - you know the difference between sport and alpine, and you can hold a real conversation with a longtime mountaineer and a newer climber equally well
- Committed to the AAC mission and modeling our core values
Preferred
- Degree in film, video production, or visual communications
- Photography skills as a complement to primary video work
- Ability to draw compelling stories out of people who are not media-trained - members, grantees, donors, and program participants
- Experience with a nonprofit organization, particularly in membership or donor storytelling
- Experience with motion graphics, animation, or multimedia storytelling formats
Environment
The balance between field and desk work shifts with the season and project cycle. On average:
- 40% Field work - Filming on location at events, at AAC lodging properties, and with members, donors, and program participants across the country. Requires regular travel and comfort in varied outdoor environments; involves transporting, carrying, and setting up video, lighting, and audio equipment (regularly 45lbs, sometimes more) outdoors and potentially in rugged terrain, at altitude, at height, and on rope systems.
- 60% Desk work - Editing, post-production, podcast production, calendar management, and cross-team coordination using Adobe Creative Suite, DaVinci Resolve, GSuite, Slack, Zoom, and other computer-based programs.

Benefits are reviewed annually and change as needed. Team members are notified when any benefit changes occur.
How to Apply
All who love the AAC mission are encouraged to apply, including people of color, Black, Indigenous, transgender, and non-binary people. Apply online. No phone calls or emails, please. Priority hiring is given to current staff and contractors. This position is being hired on a rolling basis. Cover letters are strongly encouraged.Candidates will not be contacted prior to the priority deadline.

Include any applicable experience, both paid and volunteered, that helped you build these competencies.
