What is a litigation claims adjuster?

Litigation claims adjusters are insurance professionals who handle claims that are in dispute and have entered the legal process. They manage the investigation, evaluation, and negotiation of claims where lawsuits have been filed, working with attorneys, claimants, and other parties to resolve cases. Their goal is to reach a fair settlement or defend the company in court, while ensuring compliance with policy terms and legal requirements. They play a critical role in minimizing financial loss for the insurer and maintaining good customer relations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a litigation claims adjuster?

To thrive as a Litigation Claims Adjuster, you need strong analytical skills, knowledge of insurance policies and legal procedures, and typically a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Familiarity with claims management systems, legal research databases, and possibly an industry certification like AIC (Associate in Claims) is valuable. Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills help you effectively manage disputes and collaborate with legal professionals. These skills are essential for fairly resolving complex claims, minimizing risk, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
