What is a litigation assistant?

A litigation assistant provides administrative support at a law firm or legal department. As a litigation assistant, your job duties may include conducting research, preparing documents for court hearings, scheduling meetings, and providing case status updates to clients. The career typically requires an associate degree or certificate as a legal secretary or legal assistant and previous work experience in a law firm. Additional qualifications include a basic understanding of legal procedures, along with excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills.

What are some common challenges faced by litigation assistants in managing case documents and deadlines?

Litigation Assistants often juggle multiple cases simultaneously, which means staying organized and meeting tight deadlines can be challenging. Managing large volumes of documents, tracking court dates, and ensuring filings are accurate and timely requires strong attention to detail and proactive communication with attorneys and team members. Excellent communication, discretion, and the ability to multitask under pressure are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure that legal teams are well-prepared, deadlines are met, and casework is managed efficiently throughout complex litigation processes.

Job description

Soble Law is expanding across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Arizona, and beyond. As the firm grows, strong team members grow with it.

This is an opportunity to be part of a litigation team that:

  • Moves quickly
  • Holds high standards
  • Protects serious matters
  • Builds systems for long-term scale

When families, property, or businesses are at risk, we step in, take control, and protect their future.

If you want to be part of that mission — and you are ready to stay ahead of the case — we want to hear from you.

Compensation:

This is a hybrid litigation position focused on:

  • Real estate disputes

  • Contract and title conflicts

This is not a passive support role. You will be the operational driver behind active litigation files involving:

If the attorney is the strategist, you are the execution engine.

You must:

  • Track deadlines before anyone asks
  • Build structure into every file from day one
  • Anticipate problems before they surface
  • Ensure nothing falls through the cracks

We protect serious matters. That requires serious organization.

Drafting & Filing

  • Draft pleadings, motions, affidavits, and probate petitions
  • Prepare discovery requests and responses
  • Draft subpoenas and coordinate service

  • Track fiduciary compliance deadlines
  • Organize estate asset documentation
  • Coordinate communication with fiduciaries and beneficiaries

Discovery & Trial Preparation

  • Manage document production
  • Organize deposition summaries
  • Prepare trial notebooks and exhibit lists
  • Coordinate witnesses and hearing logistics

Client Coordination

  • Collect required documents efficiently
  • Provide status updates under attorney supervision
  • Maintain professionalism during emotionally sensitive disputes
  • Keep clients informed without creating false expectations

What “Ahead of the Case” Means Here

  • Drafts are ready before deadlines approach.
  • Missing documents are identified early.
  • Hearing binders are prepared days in advance.
  • Attorneys walk into court fully organized.
  • Clients feel informed and confident.

We do not scramble at the last minute. We prepare.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of litigation experience required
  • Real estate or probate litigation experience strongly preferred (PI or Ins. Def. background helpful)
  • Working knowledge of appropriate Court Rules
  • Excellent writing and formatting skills
  • Close attention to detail

Culture Fit

You will thrive here if you:

  • Like to create and work in structure and systems
  • Take pride in clean, precise work
  • Remain calm under pressure
  • Anticipate needs without being told
  • Understand that litigation is about control and preparation
