What types of projects can I expect to work on during a Lithium Internship, and how do they contribute to my professional development?

As a Lithium Intern, you'll typically be involved in hands-on projects related to battery chemistry, materials science, or energy storage systems, depending on the organization's focus. Projects may include lab-based research, data analysis, or assisting with the development and testing of lithium-ion cells. This exposure provides practical experience with industry-standard tools and processes, enhances your technical skills, and introduces you to collaborative work environments often found in research and engineering teams. These experiences not only build your resume but also give insight into potential career paths within the battery and energy sectors.

What is a Lithium Internship?

A Lithium Internship is a temporary position, typically for students or recent graduates, that provides hands-on experience in the lithium industry. Interns may work with companies involved in lithium mining, processing, battery manufacturing, or research and development. The internship offers practical exposure to technologies and processes related to lithium extraction, battery design, sustainability, and market trends. It is a valuable opportunity for those interested in renewable energy, electric vehicles, or chemical engineering to gain industry-specific skills and knowledge.

What is the difference between Lithium Internship vs Lithium Technician?

AspectLithium InternshipLithium Technician
Required CredentialsTypically pursuing or recent graduate in engineering, geology, or related fieldsPost-secondary diploma or certification in electrical, mechanical, or related technical fields
Work EnvironmentOffice, laboratory, or field sites with supervisionField sites, manufacturing plants, or mining operations
Employer & Industry UsageInternships offered by mining companies, research institutions, or energy firmsMining companies, battery manufacturers, energy sector

The Lithium Internship is an entry-level position aimed at students or recent graduates gaining industry experience, often with supervision. In contrast, a Lithium Technician is a more hands-on role requiring technical certifications, responsible for maintaining and operating lithium extraction or processing equipment. Internships serve as a learning opportunity, while technician roles involve direct operational responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Lithium Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Lithium Intern, you generally need a background in chemistry, materials science, or engineering, often demonstrated through relevant coursework or laboratory experience. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, data analysis software, and safety protocols is common, along with proficiency in tools like MATLAB or Python. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork set standout interns apart. These skills are crucial for contributing to research, ensuring safe laboratory practices, and supporting innovation in lithium-related projects.

Job description

About Mariana Minerals
Mariana Minerals is a software-first, vertically integrated minerals company on a mission to supply the critical minerals powering modern energy, AI, and defense technologies. We're reimagining the minerals supply chain by combining deep industry expertise with advanced software, automation, and data-driven decision-making.
The Role
We are hiring a Field Engineering Intern to work on real, high-impact problems within the Project Execution Team. You will contribute directly to the construction of the Lithium One refinery, working closely with engineers and domain experts. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience building and shipping solutions, not just supporting tasks.
What You'll Do
  • Work on the construction execution of a greenfield Lithium One Refinery including working with subcontractors, vendors, scheduling and budgeting resulting in successful execution of scopes.
  • Build, test, and iterate on solutions within MarianaOS including developing world class tracking and development of a software driven construction team.
  • Analyze data and field systems to identify inefficiencies, track progress against schedule, and optimize construction performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members including engineering, operations, and construction contractors to coordinate scope and resolve field issues.
  • Present outcomes, key learnings, and recommendations to the Project Execution Team at the end of the internship.
Desired Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • Strong fundamentals in construction sequencing, reading drawings and specifications, and basic project controls.
  • Hands-on experience in construction, scheduling, estimating, or project management through coursework, prior internships, or field work.
  • Ability to break down complex field problems, prioritize tasks, and execute independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills with a strong willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic construction setting.
Why Join Us?
At Mariana Minerals, you'll be part of a mission-driven team reshaping the way critical minerals are sourced and supplied globally. You'll have the autonomy to make big decisions, the tools to innovate, and a culture that values ownership, smart automation, and collaboration.
Our culture is built on three principles:
Extreme Ownership - We take full responsibility for outcomes, relentlessly driving toward solutions.
Engineer Out Requirements, then Automate - We simplify, optimize, and then automate for scale.
Share Your Legos - We collaborate openly, share knowledge, and empower each other to build bigger, better solutions.
Join us as we build the future of responsible mineral sourcing and supply.
Mariana is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
