Construction Project Manager

Base Power Company

Austin, TX • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 22 hours ago

Job description

About Base

Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role

The Construction Project Manager serves as Base Power's owner's representative across assigned capital construction projects. This role is responsible for the full project lifecycle — from design coordination through construction closeout — with direct accountability for schedule, budget, and scope performance.

The position operates within the Infrastructure & Development team and manages external project stakeholders including general contractors, architects, engineers of record, and specialty consultants. The Construction Project Manager does not perform field construction work directly; instead, they are responsible for contractor oversight, design management, and ensuring project delivery meets Base Power's operational and business requirements.

This role requires strong technical judgment, disciplined project controls, and the ability to communicate complex construction issues clearly to internal leadership and cross-functional teams.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as Base Power's primary owner's representative on assigned construction projects, managing contractor performance, design consultant deliverables, and vendor relationships through all project phases

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and scope documentation; track variance, review change orders, and report project status to the Infrastructure & Development Lead on a regular cadence

  • Manage design and engineering consultant activities, including review of drawings and specifications for constructability, coordination of design reviews, and resolution of design conflicts prior to construction

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders — including operations, manufacturing, and facilities — to ensure project scope reflects Base Power's technical and operational requirements

  • Identify, document, and manage project risks; develop mitigation plans and escalate issues that require executive decision-making

  • Oversee project closeout activities including punch list management, commissioning coordination, document turnover, and warranty tracking

What You'll Bring

  • 7+ years of experience managing commercial, industrial, or manufacturing construction projects in an owner's representative or owner-side capacity

  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and schedules, including change order evaluation, cost forecasting, and schedule recovery planning

  • Working knowledge of construction documents, MEP systems, and building systems; ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings

  • Experience coordinating with architects, engineers of record, and specialty consultants across design and construction phases

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare and present project status reports to senior leadership

  • Proficiency in project management tools for scheduling and document control; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or equivalent platforms preferred

  • B.S. in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred

About the Team

The Infrastructure & Development team is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of all capital construction projects required for Base Power to operate and scale. The team manages a portfolio that currently includes factory renovation, new factory construction, and office headquarters development, functioning as the owner's representative across all active projects.

The team is structured to provide dedicated project management per active project, with shared procurement, cost management, and process support functions across the portfolio.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our Values
  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.

Do the best work of your life at Base.
