Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Windows & Linux System Administrator to support the Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) network and secure enclaves supporting NIWC Pacific in San Diego, California. This onsite position is responsible for maintaining and securing existing infrastructure while supporting the design, engineering, and deployment of new capabilities within a mission-critical environment.

As a Windows & Linux System Administrator, you will play a key role in administering and securing Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems, implementing automation, ensuring compliance with DoD security requirements, and supporting infrastructure modernization efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain Windows 11 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and utilize PowerShell and Bash scripts to automate system administration tasks.
  • Provide technical engineering support and participate in infrastructure design reviews for existing and future environments.
  • Harden operating systems and servers in accordance with DISA STIGs, CTOs, and other DoD cybersecurity guidance.
  • Implement automation solutions using Ansible playbooks.
  • Support vulnerability remediation efforts, including patching and compliance activities.
  • Maintain and update asset tracking databases.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist with obtaining vendor quotes and procuring infrastructure assets.
  • Coordinate shipment and delivery of equipment to remote teams and locations.
  • Support the security and operational readiness of mission-critical environments.
Requirements
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • One DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification, including:
    • Security+ CE
    • GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC)
    • Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP)
    • System Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
  • 3+ years of experience administering Windows systems.
  • 3+ years of experience administering RHEL systems.
  • Experience developing and using PowerShell and Bash scripts.
  • Experience with the IAVM process, including STIG implementation and patch management.
  • Strong troubleshooting and system administration skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Additional Windows and RHEL enterprise administration experience.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Ansible automation playbooks.
  • Experience supporting endpoint security technologies.
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity compliance requirements and secure enclave environments.
Compensation:
  • Salary Range: $110,000 - $115,000 depending on experience
