Our relentless focus on trading excellence combined with technological innovation has equipped us with a best-in-class proprietary trading platform, enabling us to compete at the highest levels in the global markets. Rooted in a culture of integrity, collaboration, and an unwavering passion for progress, we foster an environment of personal and professional excellence. Our nimble organizational structure and entrepreneurial spirit attract top-tier talent with a passion for innovation, laying the foundation and driving our consistent success in the industry.
Role: System Operations Engineer
Company: Geneva Trading
(Chicago)
About the Role
As a System Operations Engineer at Geneva Trading, you will maintain the high-performance infrastructure that powers our global trading operations. You will go beyond traditional desktop support to ensure the reliability and scalability of our Windows-centric environment. This position requires a proactive mindset-balancing technical troubleshooting with automation projects to enhance system uptime and user productivity.
Key Responsibilities
  • Endpoint & Identity Management: Utilize Microsoft Intune and Entra ID to manage device lifecycles, configuration profiles, and user identities. You will ensure workstations are compliant, secure, and optimized for trading and administrative functions.
  • Functional Automation: Shift from basic scripting to functional programming principles. You will use PowerShell as an example of a functional tool to build modular, idempotent, and reusable automation for user provisioning and software deployments.
  • API Integration: Use REST APIs to connect infrastructure tools, automate data pulls, and streamline workflows between different platforms.
  • Infrastructure & Data Center Awareness: Provide technical support for data center operations, including familiarity with racking/stacking and usingLOM (Lights-Out Management) tools like iDRAC or iLO for remote server administration.
  • AI & High-Performance Computing: Support the hardware and software environments required for AI and Machine Learning workloads, including high-spec GPU workstations and server configurations.
  • Performance Engineering: Conduct system testing to identify inefficiencies in hardware (CPU/GPU/Memory) and software deployments to maintain a low-latency edge.
  • Documentation: Maintain rigorous documentation for trading applications, exchange connectivity, and internal SOPs.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 3-5 years in System Operations, Systems Engineering, Desktop Engineering or a high-pressure Technical Support role.
  • Technical Stack: * OS: Strong proficiency in Windows (10/11 & Server).
  • Management: Practical experience with Microsoft Intune and a solid understanding of Entra ID (Azure AD). Understanding of Active Directory
  • Functional Programming: Proficiency in a functional programming style; while we use PowerShell for automation, we value the ability to write clean, logic-driven, and testable code.
  • Connectivity: Experience using REST APIs to interact with web services or automate system tasks.
  • Hardware Knowledge: Deep knowledge of PC/Server components (GPUs, RAM types, CPU architectures) and familiarity with Data Center environments.
  • Analytical Rigor: Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to dig through system log files to identify root causes.
  • Operational Mindset: Ability to make sound, rapid decisions in a fast-paced trading environment.
  • Critical Thinking: Work with AI based tools, checking to ensure that they are doing what they are supposed to. Avoiding pitfalls of just trusting what the machine says.

Preferred (The "Nice to Haves")
  • Linux: Familiarity with Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu/CentOS) administration.
  • AI Tools: Awareness of the infrastructure requirements for supporting internal AI models or LLMs.
  • Physical Ability: Comfort performing occasional physical work, including equipment moves and data center cable management.

Compensation
Base Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus.
Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's skills, experience, education, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, Geneva Trading offers a competitive total rewards package, including a comprehensive benefits program.
