Job Description

Provide architectural and big picture oversight for development of new or enhanced software products. Responsible for ensuring quality and consistency of the software architecture across the system and providing day-to-day technical guidance to the development teams. Define the system, technical, and application architectures for major areas of development and recommend course of action to maintain cost effectiveness and competitiveness. Stay up-to-date on business initiatives and objectives, particularly as these relate to infrastructure and development architecture issues. Research and implement best practices frameworks/capability models that will control costs, provide higher quality, and/or increase predictability of service delivery. Research new technology and development tools to remain abreast of current and emerging technology. Entry-Level position within field. Requires little to no experience in discipline. Conducts routine tasks as directed. Closely supervised with little latitude for independent judgment. Typically requires up to three year's experience or equivalent education.

Job Description:

We have an immediate opening at the Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF) for an application architect. ETF is a state agency that is recognized as a leader in providing public employee benefit systems. This position would work on a development team to help ETF move to its future state with its new Benefits Administration System (BAS).

Responsibilities:

Primary:

  • Assist with application architecture planning, implementation, and review
  • Perform WebLogic administration tasks on Linux servers including configuration, deployments, analysis, and troubleshooting
  • Provide support for RabbitMQ
  • Provide production support for mission critical applications including oncall responsibilities based on team rotation
  • Provide security recommendations and implementation following ETF standards and best practices
  • Follow and promote best practices and development standards
  • Work with business customers to perform analysis and troubleshooting as necessary
  • Work with other IT staff to implement process improvements
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with team members, management, and business customers
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and produce results

Secondary:

  • Work with staff from the Division of Enterprise Technology to coordinate WebSphere administration tasks on Windows servers including configuration, deployments, analysis, and troubleshooting
  • Provide architectural guidance to developers regarding the following core development technologies: Java, Struts, spring, Hibernate, Oracle, PL/SQL, JavaScript, and JIRA. Additional technologies for the BAS project include Kofax, Linux, GWT, WebLogic, Selenium, RabbitMQ, Maven, SVN, Eclipse, Crucible, Bamboo, and Jmeter.
