Position Description:

Senior Redhat Linux Administrator to support the ********’s Division of Internet/Intranet Services (DIS) in Woodlawn, MD. This role provides advanced engineering, operations, and automation support across Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), multi-cloud ACI environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform), container platforms (OpenShift, Kubernetes, EKS), and DIS enterprise services including Internet Messaging, DNS, and security-driven infrastructure operations. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in RHEL, automation at scale (Ansible/Tower/AAP, Satellite), cloud infrastructure, container orchestration, and federal security compliance requirements.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

  • Administer, harden, and optimize Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7/8/9+) systems for DIS operational environments.
  • Build and maintain Ansible/Tower/AAP automation for OS configuration, patching, deployments, network/storage tasks, and cloud infrastructure provisioning.
  • Operate and support DIS Internet Messaging platforms (Sendmail/Postfix, SMTP Auth, LDAP sync), including YAML/Ansible-based server provisioning and Splunk log/report automation.
  • Manage UNIX/BIND DNS zones, automate zone maintenance, integrate with AD DNS, and ensure compliance with SSA security and change-management processes.
  • Support and operate OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Amazon EKS clusters, including deployment of OCI-compliant base images, namespace administration, and containerized application support.
  • Provide multi-cloud ACI operations across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform—compute, storage, networking, AMIs, IAM, encryption, monitoring, and DR/failover design.
  • Implement and support security operations including ATO documentation, POA&M tracking, continuous monitoring, vulnerability scanning, intrusion detection, event logging, and incident response.
  • Maintain Red Hat Satellite for patching, inventory, and configuration compliance.
  • Support virtualization infrastructure including VMware ESXi, vCenter, Horizon/VCF/Aria, Dell/EMC platforms, SAN administration, and backup/restore technologies.
  • Produce and maintain engineering documentation, runbooks, system architecture references, and CAPRS/ServiceNow problem and change records.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotations, respond to incidents within required SLAs, and support weekend/off-hour maintenance windows.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

  • 7+ years administering RHEL 7/8/9+ including installation, configuration, optimization, security hardening, and backup/recovery.
  • 7+ years troubleshooting performance issues (CPU, memory, I/O, networking).
  • 5+ years supporting virtualized environments (VMware ESXi/vCenter/VCF/Aria, KVM).
  • 5+ years developing automation using Ansible, Ansible Tower/AAP, Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Expertise in Linux command-line operations and enterprise-level troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • 5 years of experience working Virtual Platforms
  • 5 years of experience working with Ansible Playbooks
  • 3 years of experience with scripting languages for automation tasks and deployments (e.g., Bash Shell and Python)
  • Expertise in the Linux command-line environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
