Job description

Summary
This position performs routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis as a part of a department responsible for total cleaning of and providing linen services to the Medical Center and its related rental properties, all to comply with standards of linen services and sanitation for Accreditation and Licensure requirements. In the performance of the regular job duties, it is appropriate for this position to have access to the medication room and supply room for the purpose of cleaning.
Responsibilities
(35%)* Performs assigned tasks in accordance with written procedures, guidelines, directions, checklists, and verbal requests and instructions.
(35%)* Cleans and services units, rooms, areas, and facilities including showers, tubs, sinks, water/ice dispensers, counters, toilets, refrigerators, halls, stairways, walls, floors, ceilings, windows, elevators, patient beds, patient units, patient equipment, furniture of all kinds, operating suites, laboratories, procedure rooms, and offices.
(30%)* Uses cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment including cloths, wall mops, floor mops, vacuums, carpet cleaners, floor rotors, and automatic floor machines.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs miscellaneous cleaning and service duties including cleaning building surfaces, equipment, furniture, & fixtures, hanging curtains & window treatments, supplying dispensers, stripping & waxing floors, and maintaining floor matting.
Operates, pushes, and pulls various carts including work carts, soiled linen tubs, trash utility carts, supply carts, and large delivery carts.
Removes, handles and transports soiled linen, trash, and medical wastes throughout the facility.
Operates waste compacting and cardboard bailing equipment.
Handles and loads bags of soiled linen into washers for processing.
Unloads wet linen from washers; loads dryers, and unloads dryers.
Performs manual sorting and folding of linens.
Stacks clean on shelves.
Performs continual education and training as assigned through written communications and information, verbal and visual presentations, and computer modules and presentations.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
Perform tasks in accordance with written and oral instructions.
Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.
