Summary:
The Chief Radiation Therapist is responsible for supervising the technical operations of the Radiation Oncology department. Will assist in overseeing the clinical and administrative side of the department, assist with radiation SOP's, manage staff; serve as a resource for coding and billing and the ACR accreditation process as well as delivering radiation treatment.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current state Texas certification
  • Graduate of AMA approved school in radiation therapy, credentialed in radiation therapy technology by ARRT preferred
  • BLS certification required

Responsibilities:
  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others
  • Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
  • Ensures the confidentiality of information in regards to patients, Doctors and staff
  • Performs tumor localization procedures, shells, molds, etc.
  • Performs dosimetry procedures, iso-dose cures with Dosimetrist or Radiation Oncologist
  • Cares for brachytherapy sources including preparing for use, clean and return to safe, keep log of use
  • Assists physician in placement of brachytherapy sources
  • Performs daily linear accelerator warm-up procedures
  • Checks photon beam and all electron beams for consistency
  • Checks physics components for accuracy of beam alignment
  • Delivers accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy
  • Observes patients for unusual reactions and events
  • Coordination of Radiation therapist team staffing
  • Is a reliable coding and billing resource
  • Participate in ACR accreditation
  • Develops SOP's, policies and procedures for the team in the area on an ongoing basis
  • Manages all operational functions of the Radiation therapy department related to simulations and radiation treatment & delivery in collaboration with Radiation Oncologist.
  • Responsible for training and competency assessment of radiation therapy team members
  • Other duties as assigned

Other information:
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
  • Five (5) years' experience as staff radiation therapy in radiation center preferred
  • Prefer hospital experience
  • Able to demonstrate competent levels of radiological procedures
  • Knowledge of radiation therapy theory and applications
  • Knowledge of dosimetry and treatment planning
  • Must have excellent customer service skills as well as good communication and organizational skills
  • High degree of competency/experience in general
  • Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment
  • Requires working with frequent interruptions
  • Must project a professional image
  • Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues
  • Organizational skills, good written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of health care staff including nursing, administration, and physicians

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age.
