What is line striping?

Line striping is the process of applying painted lines and markings to surfaces such as parking lots, roads, and warehouses to guide traffic, designate parking spaces, and improve safety. This job typically involves using specialized equipment and durable paints to create straight, visible, and long-lasting lines. Line striping is essential for organization and compliance with safety regulations in both public and private spaces. The work may also include repainting faded lines and adding directional arrows, crosswalks, or other symbols as needed.

What is a line striping job?

Line striping jobs involve painting lines on roadways, parking lots, and other facilities, such as airports that require markings on pavement or asphalt. As a line striper, you may use a truck with striping equipment or a walk-behind striping machine. This may depend on the size of the project. You work from a blueprint that has a preset layout, and you measure the lines and symbols to ensure accuracy. As a line striper, your duties also include using stencils to create traffic symbols. Your responsibilities sometimes include operating other equipment, such as a grinder to remove old paint.
