Position Summary

Hi-Line Industries is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Buyer for the Procurement & Purchasing Team to support our manufacturing operations. This role is ideal for individuals looking to build or expand upon a career in supply chain management and purchasing within the metal fabrication and machining industry. The Buyer will help source, purchase, and manage materials used in the manufacturing of industrial products for the Water and Wastewater Industries while ensuring timely delivery to meet project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Material Purchasing: Sourcing and ordering materials such as steel and stainless-steel plate, structural, pipe and tubing. Equipment items include fasteners, valves, pipe fittings, motors, electrical &      hydraulic components, etc.
  • Vendor Coordination: Communicate with suppliers to request quotes, confirm pricing, issue orders and manage order status to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Inventory Control: Help monitor inventory levels and reorder materials to maintain adequate stock for production schedules.
  • Purchase Order Management: Create and process purchase orders accurately, ensuring compliance with company policies and budget guidelines.
  • Cost and Quality Assurance: Compare pricing, review supplier performance, and ensure materials meet Hi-Line’s quality standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the project management, operations, and estimating teams to align purchasing needs with current and upcoming projects and finished goods inventory plans.
  • Documentation: Maintain material traceability reports (MTR’s) and organized records of orders, invoices, and supplier correspondence.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance purchasing efficiency and supplier relationships.
Requirements:
  • Associate’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 5+ years' experience in manufacturing, construction, metals distribution industry or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
  • Basic understanding of purchasing and inventory management principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word); experience with ERP or purchasing systems is a plus and preferred. Intermediate to strong computer literacy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Eagerness to learn about manufacturing processes, materials, and vendor networks.
