Schedule: Full-time, 5% possible travel and 100% on site (Monday–Friday, Saturday and Sunday may be required)

Position Summary:

This role is to support new product design for a leading lighting manufacturer. Functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to fixture design, component design, updating BOMs, implementing updates to existing components, troubleshooting fixture assemblies, electronic and mechanical design, documenting processes, root cause analysis, and collecting data. Assist in cost justifications for projects, time studies, cost savings projects, labor time reductions. Documentation of process to maximize efficiency. Maintaining clean working areas. All duties and responsibilities are to ensure meeting customer expectations while adhering to safety policies and maintaining quality objectives. Skill-based training will be provided.


Essential Functions:

Collaborate with the cross functional teams and manager to complete assigned tasks/jobs project schedule. Product redesign, product design extension and redesign existingmanufacturing support equipment. Initiate design for cost savings, DFMA including internal assembly and contract ease of installation. Prototyping and testing for existing products. Develop and document new processes including drawings, BOMs. Resolve problems with the Manager that will negatively impact projects or elevate the problem in a timely fashion if they cannot resolve it themselves. Contribute to the company’s product roadmap through innovation using market trends, customer needs, and emerging technologies in lighting and materials. Report problems or concerns related to quality, processes, equipment, material, labor and safety to the Manager. Comply with all applicable Safety and Quality Management System policies and procedures. Identify and support continuous improvement efforts with the Manager. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Collaboration with and guidance of junior engineers (E1). Break down complex requirements into clear tasks, assign and prioritize work, and ensure designs and implementations meet quality, performance, and timeline expectations.


Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

Education/Experience: Mechanical engineering degree or related degree or mechanical experience in lieu of degree. 5 years or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Understanding of lighting systems, extrusions, sheet metal design, optics, and thermal management. Knowledge of manufacturing processes including die casting, extrusion, stamping, and injection molding. Proven expertise in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred). Experience managing engineering documentation and workflows in a PDM/PLM environment. Experience with lighting simulation tools (e.g., AGi32, DIALux) is a plus, Familiarity with UL standards and lighting certification processes is a plus, and Exposure to Lean Product Development or Agile methodologies is plus but, not required.


Language Skills: Must be able to effectively communicate with staff, peers and management.


Technical Skills: Familiar with SolidWorks, 3D printing software and equipment, Microsoft products including Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook. Experience with PLC programming a plus, pneumatic and electronics design is a plus. Review and interpret drawings for dimensions and tolerances. Using inspection equipment to verify drawing dimensions.


Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities: Excellent service orientation and excellent communication and service skills a must. Good mechanical aptitude. Ability to work well with others and follow task driven directions

Seeing – Must be able to see well enough to read reports and use a computer.


Hearing – Must be able to hear well enough to communicate on the phone and in person.


Standing/Walking/Mobility – Occasional will be required to stand to operate equipment and work in shop environment for process verification and trouble shooting.


Sit – Regularly required to sit.


Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling – Must be able to stoop and kneel for short periods of time.


Lifting – Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.


Fingering/Grasping/Feeling – Must be able to write and type.


Environmental Conditions:

The noise level in the work environment ranges from loud to quiet.
