Job description

Service Technician – Lighting & Electrical

The Service Technician – Lighting & Electrical is responsible for performing electrical service work, lighting maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, testing, and installations for a variety of commercial and industrial customers and facilities. This role includes diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, lighting controls, motor controls, programmable controllers, pump stations, and related electrical equipment.

The ideal candidate is experienced in electrical service work, able to work independently in the field, and committed to providing safe, high-quality workmanship and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace electrical circuits, lighting systems, and electrical equipment.

  • Diagnose and repair lighting controls, computerized motor controls, programmable controllers, and related systems.

  • Install, maintain, test, and service lighting systems, parking lot and street lighting, pump stations, and other electrical apparatus.

  • Wire, connect, test, and maintain new electrical services and systems.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and job specifications.

  • Prepare sketches and layouts showing the location of wiring and electrical equipment.

  • Plan and perform installations to minimize material waste, ensure accessibility for future maintenance, and maintain compliance with safety and electrical codes.

  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits using meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic equipment.

  • Identify and procure necessary replacement parts and materials following company procurement procedures.

  • Work safely from ladders, scaffolding, rooftops, and bucket trucks up to 50 feet.

  • Perform physically demanding work while safely operating hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.

  • Respond to scheduled service calls and emergency service situations as assigned.

  • Maintain compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, local ordinances, and electrical codes.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of lighting and electrical service experience.

  • Experience in commercial lighting and electrical service work preferred.

  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems independently and efficiently.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with a professional demeanor.

  • Must be dependable and punctual.

  • Availability to work Monday through Friday, with potential overtime and weekend work as needed.

  • Ability to safely operate a bucket truck up to 50 feet.

  • Valid and current driver’s license required.

  • CSLT Certification is a plus.

  • Candidates living in or near Downey, Long Beach, Carson, or South Los Angeles areas are preferred.
