Salary: $19.00-$20.00/hour

ABOUT US: Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning parks and recreation agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational programs, classes, and events as well as facilities, parks and open spaces! Our Cultural Arts Department is home to our outstanding theatre program, which hosts various productions throughout the year.

JOB SUMMARY: The Lighting Designer is responsible for creating and implementing all lighting for our production, ensuring a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. The Lighting Designer will collaborate with the director and production team to conceptualize and create designs that enhance the characters and storytelling. They will hang and program all necessary instruments and equipment, ensuring a safe environment at all times. The Lighting Designer will occasionally lead a team of community volunteers. They will also effectively manage time to meet deadlines and ensure the lighting is ready for tech week and performances. The Lighting Designer will be expected to attend staff meetings, designer run, and strike.

LOCATION: Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg, IL

QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred applicant will have experience in lighting design for theatrical productions, including the use of ETC systems. Proficiency in design, plotting, hanging, and focusing techniques required. Strong creative and artistic skills with a keen understanding of how lights contribute to production. We are looking for a dependable industry professional with excellent communication and collaboration skills, who can work within time and budget constraints, and can adapt designs based on practical considerations. Experience with projections a plus!

SCHEDULING & PAY: This is a part-time position with flexible hours depending on performance schedules (some evenings and weekends will be required). The pay rate is $19.00-$20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. Production begins mid-September with tech week November 28th December 3rd. Performances will be on December 4th, 5th, and 6th. We are open to keeping a successful candidate on staff year-round.
