Job description

Paragon Automotive is seeking a certified Virginia State Inspector with a minimum of B-Tech–level mechanical ability to join our team at our sister location on Indian River Road in Virginia Beach. This role is ideal for an inspector who not only performs the duties of the state inspector, but is also capable of performing most—if not all—repairs related to inspection failures.

This is a position for someone who takes ownership of their lane and their work—not just writing up inspections, but ensuring vehicles are repaired correctly, safely, and compliantly.


What You’ll Do

  • Perform Virginia State Safety Inspections strictly in accordance with DMV regulations
  • Accurately identify, document, and explain inspection failures
  • Perform inspection-related repairs (brakes, suspension, steering, lighting, tires, exhaust, etc.)
  • Re-inspect vehicles after repairs to ensure full compliance
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, stickers, and documentation
  • Keep the inspection lane organized, compliant, and audit-ready
  • Communicate clearly with service advisors and customers when needed
  • Uphold shop safety standards and ethical inspection practices

What We’re Looking For

  • Current Virginia State Inspector License (required)
  • B-Tech–level mechanical skillset (hands-on repair capability is essential)
  • Strong understanding of Virginia State Inspection procedures and audit requirements.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair common inspection-related failures independently
  • High attention to detail and commitment to doing inspections correctly
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Prior shop or combined inspector/technician experience preferred
