Key Responsibilities as Lead Environment Concept Artist1. Vendor Direction & Quality Control
  • Creative Liaison: Partner closely with the Art Director and Outsource Managers to serve as the main artistic contact for external concept art vendors.
  • Artistic Feedback: Review external milestone submissions and provide clear, constructive, and highly actionable pain-overs and critiques to maintain absolute style, composition, and functional consistency.
  • Pipeline Standardization: Help define environment art pipelines, asset structures, and quality benchmarks specifically optimized for outsourced workflows.
2. Concept Creation & Production Documentation
  • World-Building blueprints: Generate high-quality, production-ready environment concept designs, including orthographic sheets, asset callouts, material reference sheets, and architectural designs.
  • Visual Direction Tools: Develop comprehensive mood boards, atmosphere targets, and lighting keys to visually articulate world-building goals to third-party developers.
  • Cross-Department Sync: Collaborate intensely with downstream teams (Level Designers, Lighting Artists, VFX Artists) to ensure concept designs translate flawlessly into playable, technically sound 3D spaces.
  • Team Mentorship: Lead, inspire, and provide daily artistic direction for a close-knit internal team of concept artists.
  • Proactive Troubleshooting: Identify structural communication gaps, visual deviations, or scheduling risks early, escalating concerns smoothly to project leadership before they impact production timelines.

  • Shipped AAA Credit: Proven track record working as a Senior or Lead Environment Concept Artist on at least one shipped AAA title.
  • Elite Portfolio: An exceptional portfolio demonstrating mastery of composition, atmospheric perspective, industrial/architectural design, color theory, shape language, and gameplay readability.
  • Production Package Mastery: Expert ability to construct highly detailed, clear production blueprints (turnarounds, asset breakdowns, reference sheets) that a 3D artist can build from seamlessly.
