How much do lighthouse keeper job jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for lighthouse keeper job in the United States is $24.31, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.71 and $27.64 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is it hard to become a lighthouse keeper?

Becoming a lighthouse keeper typically requires relevant maritime or technical skills, such as knowledge of navigation, maintenance, and safety procedures. The job can involve isolated work environments and irregular hours, and some positions may require certifications or experience in related fields. Overall, it can be challenging due to the specialized skills and conditions involved.

Is being a lighthouse keeper still a job?

Lighthouse keeper is a traditional occupation that has largely become obsolete due to modern navigation technology and automation. Some remote or historic lighthouses still employ keepers, but most are operated automatically or managed by government agencies without full-time staff. The role now is rare and often involves maintenance, monitoring, and preservation tasks rather than continuous human presence.

What lighthouse job pays 1.2 million?

Lighthouse keeper jobs typically do not pay anywhere near 1.2 million dollars; such high salaries are uncommon in this field. High earnings in related maritime or specialized engineering roles may reach that level, but lighthouse keeping itself is generally a modestly paid position focused on maintenance and safety. Salaries vary based on location, experience, and employer, but they rarely approach seven-figure sums.

How much do lighthouse keepers actually get paid?

Lighthouse keeper salaries vary depending on location and experience, but typically range from $30,000 to $70,000 annually. The role often requires working in remote environments and may include benefits such as housing and travel allowances.
