Staying organized and taking scheduled breaks can also help maintain productivity and comfort throughout the shift.

Job description

Industrial Crating Lead

(Heavy Machinery & Export Packaging)

Location: Romulus, MI

Job Type: Full-Time | Union Role

Pay Range: $25.00 – $29.00/hour

About the Opportunity

This organization is seeking an Industrial Crating Foreman to lead custom wood crating operations focused on heavy machinery, oversized equipment, and industrial export shipments. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands how and why industrial crates are built — not just how to assemble boxes.

The role blends on-the-floor build work, warehouse leadership, and coordination with office personnel and customers. The right candidate will already have deep experience in industrial crating and be ready to step into a true foreman-level role.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily industrial crating operations for heavy machinery and oversized equipment

• Build and oversee custom wood crates, skids, bases, blocking, and bracing

• Interpret job specs, dimensions, weights, and shipping requirements

• Plan and sequence work for one-off or low-volume, high-complexity builds

• Coordinate job execution with office, operations, and project teams

• Guide and support other builders on proper crating methods and standards

• Ensure crates meet export, customer, and shipment requirements

• Maintain safety, quality, and efficiency across the shop floor

• Act as a professional, customer-facing representative when required

• Keep the warehouse organized, clean, and customer-ready

Required Experience & Qualifications

3–5+ years of hands-on experience in industrial export crating for heavy machinery or oversized equipment

• Strong background in custom, non-repetitive builds (not pallet-only or light packaging)

• Experience with machinery bases, skids, blocking, and bracing

• Ability to read measurements, layouts, and basic job instructions or drawings

Warehouse leadership, foreman, or lead experience strongly preferred

• Proven ability to organize work, prioritize jobs, and keep builds moving

• Strong communication skills and comfort working with office staff and customers

• Professional, reliable, and team-oriented work style

• Experience in a union environment or willingness to work within one

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly pay range: $25.00 – $29.00, based on experience

• Union role with scheduled annual wage increases

• Medical, dental, vision, life (including AD&D), and disability insurance

• 401(k) with employer match

• $0.50 per $1.00 contributed, up to $2,000 annually

• Roth 401(k) option available

• Front-loaded Paid Time Off based on years of service

• Paid holidays

• Long-term, stable opportunity with a clear leadership path
